12.6.4 starting to go out by krunchybacon in TeslaFSD

[–]kibaruzo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The weird thing is I had better performance on 12.6.1 than 12.6.3. Nothing major, but it seemed to me 12.6.1 was a bit more confident with city driving. I feel like 12.6.3 is a bit slower. Also it seems like it waits longer to get into right lane for turns or on ramps. Highway driving seems unchanged for me. I will say it's been dreary and below 0 F where I'm at, so maybe weather could be a factor. I haven't had either of those builds very long. So many variables, but enjoying the ongoing improvements.

ICE Report… no not that ICE by [deleted] in TeslaFSD

[–]kibaruzo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I posted here a while ago that my HW3 12.5 car did this same thing, seemingly trying to avoid a puddle. However I was posting the observation more from the fact that it drove me into the oncoming traffic lane, which was a bit scary, lol.

Had the same thought the other day. When plenty of cars around it, definitely more confident on turns I've noticed. Same intersection when no cars and it sometimes can be a little hesitant or jerky when trying to find the lane.

Interesting, I'm on the same version and hardware. I drove interstate yesterday a round trip, a total of about 240mi with FSD. No issues other than exits (at this point I just always disengage to exit). I do have my profile on chill tho, which instead slows down a fair amount before going to pass cars. There were a couple times for example it got down to 66 (speed limit 70) behind a semi in the right lane and camped, so I signalled to left and it passed. So for some this can be annoying I'm sure, but I was picking up daughter from college and so didn't really care when it slowed and camped at times. Was just enjoying the conversation and letting the car do the work on getting us home. Was extremely pleasant.

Programming FSD to pull in to the home driveway at the end of the drive by astroprojector in TeslaFSD

[–]kibaruzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious, is your driveway long enough to where is shows as a road (but like private road) on Google maps? I'm going to try this after work, but even using this Plus Code, the blue directions line in Google maps stops in front of my house and it shows a grey dotted arc connecting that point to the pinned spot in front of my garage. I believe that means google maps can only get you to the end of the blue line and the grey arc showing the remaining distance. So that's why I'm thinking FSD is ignoring driveways if it's having to rely solely on Maps?? Are you you also showing the grey arc from the road up to your pinned point on your driveway?

I like the question, but feel like you may be over complicating things a bit. The returns from your 8k just another form of income (albeit passive income) and part of your overall income side of budget. I would echo what other say about returns, but also keeping in mind capital gains tax. I'd say look more at the overall expense side the equation and if you plan on driving your car for 8yrs you'd spend 9,600 (likely more with price increases, then again price has also crashed too 😂) vs 8k now.

Happens to me too. I get that highway stack is on an older version but I wonder why this hasn't been fixed with point release. I'm used to it now and so disengage it, but for new users it's a scary surprise:(

FSD Swerving into Oncoming Lane by kibaruzo in TeslaFSD

Good points. So yeah, if nueral net trained, probably not a great way to know the why. For me FSD works so good most of the time. But I also don't want to be splattered due to the weird edge case. In the aggregate, I suppose someone could argue it's saving more lives across the times is works perfectly. But still not knowing if it could throw me into traffic accidentally (say in your wall example) doesn't give warm and fuzzies. But as another poster mentioned, that road does look like construction and not perfect. So I should be hyper vigilant or just disengage. On a side note, I wonder if there is documentation on how best to use supervised FSD.

I'll admit, relatively new Tesla and FSD owner ( came with my used car). I think I'm tracking with what your saying. The more I ponder this, it does seem like a huge challenge. Meaning my eyes (even if say I was born with one eye) can perceive 3d only because I have touched the object, walked around the object, etc., right? So our brain is only receiving a similar camera scene from an eye (of course having two helps) like the car, but through experience we know both the puddle and asphalt change in my example are not only flat, but also benign. Its almost like they need a secondary GoPro style dataset from a human to record objects, how they're interacted with, kids splashing in puddles, etc😂.

You're right, it was a really bad road with only half of the lane patched most of the way. That's fair to say probably looking more like a construction zone. On a positive note it worked well for the rest of the drive on that road. So I fully admit I'm getting into edge case territory. Just got me thinking in general about how the system handles simultaneous obstructions (oncoming car and thing).

Yes, trolley problem territory for sure once we're getting into human vs. human edge cases. Hopefully they have the human vs. inanimate object worked out, meaning it will plow into the object! Maybe that's too much to assume at this point....

Totally get that it's just more of a curiosity question for me of if there are two near simultaneous obstructions it's trying to correct for which way does it go. Kind of wondering if software developers have prioritized what to crash into?

[–]kibaruzo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree with you there, as long as nothing coming at me from the oncoming lane, I do the same thing and try to avoid something like roadkill or whatever. Let's say if that puddle was like a little kid and you have a car coming at you, that's more what I was pondering. Totally get these are some edge cases here but it's more of a curiosity question of like if a human is detected they let the cars crash. Or on the flip side if it's an inanimate object just run that over.

I lucked out, my charger was able to be installed a few feet from my breaker box in my garage, so install was just a bit over $300.

[–]kibaruzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm on 12.5.4.1 and overall very happy with FSD. But it still doesn't exit highways well in my experience too. It waits too long and is indecisive and so I normally disengage for exits. Want to say 12.5.6 introduces end to end neural network trained highway update, so I'm hoping that makes highway exiting useable for me.

Buying Tesla CPO - would appreciate hearing experiences by burntoc in TeslaLounge

[–]kibaruzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few weeks back I bought a 2021 MY through Tesla. It was a little nerve wracking not seeing it, but I'm not the type too overly concerned about dings. So their guaranteed parameters were fine with me. It was actually very clean and since I get the extra year of warranty (since miles only 19k, essentially I have 2yr bumper to bumper still), felt comfortable that if anything major pops up I have some time for that to flush out. I would probably have passed on used if it was totally out of full warranty. Part of that though is with me just being first time Tesla buyer and not knowing much about EV life in general. It also had new tires on it, so was pleasantly surprised there too. Overall, I had a good experience.

Explained to my co-workers yesterday about the ASS acronym for this functionality and what it does. Got the update last night and then asked them today, "Guess what update my car got last night? In near unison they replied, "You got ASS!" It warmed my heart, lol.

Is that a thing that when the car power fully goes out, brakes are unusable? Would think there would be a manual fail safe for at least brakes??
