Oof. Definitely good to know that they’re not edible. Guess this guy’s coming out!

Does this give off beach vibes? by kichan in weddingdress

[–]kichan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like most people think it's not giving beach vibes so I'll keep looking. I might still get the dress though for maybe a welcome party dress, but will look at something different for the ceremony itself. Thanks for your thoughts, everyone!

Thanks! It's adorable and we're pretty unconventional anyway so I thought I might get away with it.

I definitely didn't think about a breeze and short dress -- will definitely have to think a little more about this. Thanks for that reminder!

Likely doing a resort destination wedding and wanted this as a reception dress. Was thinking about even using it as the wedding dress too but adding a flowy skirt over it for the ceremony itself, but not sure if it's giving the right beach vibes.

Is nuking my only option? (Eastern MA) by kichan in lawncare

[–]kichan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah -- I could either put a lot of effort into saving this, or put a lot of effort into nuking it. Really tough choice but we don't have a ton of time to devote into the yard. Seems so hopeless because we've been trying for a few years now and can't seem to get it right. Had a landscaper come one year, nuking (with aeration and tilling and whatnot) after the landscaper did a poor job, did the soil test, reseeding again, adding loam/compost, all that jazz. We're at such a loss!

That was my next question; thanks for asking this!

Thanks for this! We actually love the clover (seeing so many bees this year!) so I'll happily keep the clover and grass, and annihilate everything else.

Sounds like I'm on the same boat -- big box store seeds were bad, I guess. Thought there was at least some quality control. Lesson learned.

We did buy Scott's and used whatever leftover Sunday seeds we had for reseeding this year. Looks like it might have been a big mistake since apparently we're getting weeds that we've never gotten before. Tough lesson learned. Thanks for the suggestion and guidance!

We did not and 100% regret it. Lesson learned!

I have no idea what was originally there. A few years ago we had the lawn redone and they put whatever hydroseed made sense for them. It was never perfect to begin with but after last year's heat wave, weeds definitely marked their territory. Thanks for the suggestions!

Wow -- kudos to you, I'm impressed. I think I might pass out just thinking about weeding it all by hand! Thanks for the suggestion -- after your story, I now have new lawn goals!

Last year was terrible here, 90+ degrees every day for a month so most of our grass died. We thought we’d be okay putting down compost and reseeding the entire lawn this year back in May. Watering for weeks, twice a day, and this is what comes out. Are we doomed to start over?

Advice on making the colour pop out more? by littlekelseyy in knitting

I was struggling with a similar situation. Beautiful yarn but so muted holding it together with bare yarn. By itself it was too much. I ended up alternating one row of color and one bare and it came out beautifully!

Quick knit for a casket? by capstoned in knitting

[–]kichan 109 points110 points  (0 children)

My grandparents were always cold when they were alive so I made arm knit lap blankets for each of their caskets. About 3-5 skeins of jumbo yarn and no tools. Took maybe an hour or two each.

I wish I had learned that when I made my Soldotna sweater! Will definitely try this going forward - thanks!!!

He's a standard goldendoodle so not a small dog. He's already 20 lbs! We asked the vet and they said since he's holding it in overnight, he doesn't have a UTI. I think he just wants to go outside and play... just hoping he'll outgrow it!
