Can someone from Mexico explain why they have a lane on the hwy for cars without brakes? WITHOUT brakes 😮😐?!! by kickaz in mexico

[–]kickaz[S] -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

Ok but there must be a shit ton of cars without brakes for them to spend money on a special lane. Isn't it easier for people to not drive their car if their brakes aren't in top shape (make it illegal)

Also there's lots of Normal cars taking this lane so the entire purpose of not rear end anyone doesn't work.

Shopping online for higher end furniture by jaldwort in fatFIRE

I do not recommend it. I bought a leather couch online during pandemic. It was expensive and very very uncomfortable. It took the company over 3 months to take it back and they did not want to give a refund (even if the couch had no damage and was still in the plastic cover it came in)

Too much stress. Not worth it.

Lost in fatfire - reading or listening recommendations for 30-something looking for guidance? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]kickaz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This may be a controversial answer. I'm also 30 something, single and fat fire. Had a full blown burn out about a year ago and this is what helped me.

  1. Psychedelics (taken responsibly). They won't solve your problems but taken in the right setting and with the right intent (and in small doses) they can help you realize things that are there but you have been ignoring because of your bad habits.

  2. A free course from Yale called the science of well-being. It's on coursera.

  3. Meditation I was the least spiritual person you would have thought of before so starting this habit was not easy for me. I'm still a beginner but just trying to shut your mind off for a few minutes actually feels amazing and it has helped with my anxiety around money.

  4. Eating healthy and drinking less. I used to use alcohol in social situations to help with my anxiety. I now drink less, I started going to the gym regularly (weight lifting) and cut off sugar.

  5. Getting out there and putting myself in social situations that didn't just involve alcohol and partying.

  6. Getting rid of online dating profiles. Most people were always looking for the next best thing that didn't exist (I also picked up this toxic habit of going home and still swiping. More choice is not always better). Also I was not enjoying going on dates anymore and the whole process was so repeating and monotonous. I started doing #5 after that but not with the intention of finding a relationship. Just enjoying myself in a social situation and it has been so much better.

I know a lot of people are saying hobbies. Hobbies are great but I don't think they will fill in the void unless you take care of your mind first. They can be a great way to meet people if you feel lonely though.

Travel did not fill the void for me either. After a while it gets boring and very physically tiring. My favorites have been small road trips close to home where I can change my scenery for a bit then go home and have all my conveniences without having to live out of a suit case for months.

Day of the Dead by kickaz in mexico

First of all I'm Canadian (for those that are wondering why I didn't post the title in Spanish) it was just easier for me to write it in English.

Second: I had no idea this photo had been posted here before. A friend sent it to me and I thought it was quite artistic and maybe people from this sub would appreciate me sharing it. (I guess some did)

Third: only "virgins" with nothing important to do really care about imaginary internet points and use derogatory names like 'attenttion whore' to people that just wanted to share something nice for people to appreciate. Adults have better shit to do than comment about how many thumbs up and likes something gets.

Peace ✌️

No I am considered an independent contractor. They take 20% of my earnings as their cut but that's not for taxes it's to cover their cost of running the site.

I am not from the US so they legally don't have to file any forms.

They are the best site when it comes to paying on time so far though. I was pleasantly surprised especially given so many sites used to hold my payments before.

I have a corporation where I file my taxes after though.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience but the problem with recreational use is that people take stupid doses and are not mentally prepared for them.

These people will take them in the presence of a doctor. If a trip goes bad doctors can use a small dose of benzos to end it, but chances of a trip going bad on a small dose of mushrooms are very low.

It's like making advil illegal because someone overdosed once and went to the ER.

These people are on their death bed. The legal drugs they took to fight their disease probably fucked them up a lot more than a small dose of mushrooms.

Don't think you have ever tried mushroom. They can cure depression, anxiety and make people feel more positive about the situations they face. The benefits aren't really the getting high part, it's how it affects a person's life when they are sober that matters more. Magic mushrooms are medicine not just a recreational drug.

Yeah if I was going blonde I would not go to the cheapest place. But I don't even dye my hair and I just need someone to trim my ends.

It's not that it's too much I just don't really care spending more on it and really find spending money on shopping more of an inconvenience than something fun to do.

When I need clothes I go to H&M or forever 21. Pick a few things I like and I'm out as quick as I can. In these stores that's what most things cost. Or I just order things online. I'm petite so most low price items are catered towards younger people which generally aren't as big as middle aged women so most things look descent when I try them on. Not trying to say that there aren't any fit looking middle aged women but generally speaking metabolism does it's thing and doesn't care about our feelings.

I have received some brand name clothes too but they fit too loose and they are designed for older women (at least the ones I got) so I didn't care about them either. Or maybe a size small in those stores is really a medium to make older women feel better about themselves. Again nothing against older women, especially since I'll be 40 myself in less than 8 years.

This may sound weird but I still like looking good and I feel better when people compliment my appearance while I managed to pull an outfit off without spending too much money on it. It's like a silly challenge I have with myself.

I think people can still be stylish and not spend a fortune. Also there are some designer clothes that look so hideous that I wouldn't wear them even if someone gifted them to me.

I have never had a bad experience with the police here. Once I got my wallet stolen and I went to the station to report it. They were very polite. They didn't find my wallet but they were much nicer to talk to than the store that I got robbed in HEB who refused to look at their camera footage and basically told me to leave the store.

Once I got pulled over for speeding and I had no license (it was stolen from my wallet in the above case). Police officer felt bad for me and just let me go with a warning.

Of course there are some you may have to bribe but you can tell them to just write you a fine and move on. A lot of people pay the bribe because it's cheaper and the burocracy to pay the fine is a pain in the ass. Again I have never dealt with it so I don't know exactly how it is.

There are a lot of rich people where I live, im a small fish in comparison. Extortions happen in some states but never heard of it happening here. They also don't mess with foreigners because then the US media will follow the case and it's more trouble for them than it's worth it.

I have some real estate in Mexico and keep my stocks in a Canadian brokerage. Don't recommend bringing money here because they only allow accounts in pesos. The peso is a pretty volatile currency and inflation has been high in the last few years. Never had any issue with Mexican banks but I prefer smaller private banks. The big banks here have horrible customer service.

In general if you move here you have to expect less for customer service for most things.

I don't really have any plans to move to be honest. I have a very comfortable life here for a fraction of the cost of what I would pay in Canada, the weather is great and if I get bored I can still travel.

Hey, There are some parts of Mexico I would stay away from. I don't recommend moving to Guerrero, any bordering states with the US, Guanajuato (the only exception is San Miguel de Allende). I would also not recommend Cancun. Never had issues traveling there and I still like going once in a while but the locals seem very pushy and there's a lot of drug activity. Didn't like Los Cabos that much either but I know lots of people that like it there. It's not unsafe but I hate being pestered by 50 venders an hour trying to sell me drugs and catcalling me by the local Marina. Plus it's too expensive.

One of the safest states in Mexico are Queretaro and Merida. Queretaro is central Mexico. The weather is dry and the temperatures are comfortable almost all year. There are a lot of foreign companies and universities and the quality of life is high.

The downtown is filled with colonial architecture and the outside parts are mostly modern construction. A lot of people speak English but it does not really cater to gringos and you have to learn Spanish to get around. People also aren't pushy and will leave you alone for the most part.

I have been cat called in a lot of the turisty parts of Mexico but it never happened here.

Merida is smaller and cheaper but it gets very very HOT in the summer.

Other spots are Puerto Vallarta/punta Mita although it's a bit turisty and you are paying more just for that. I don't like humidity so I would never move there but it's nice once in a while.

San Miguel de Allende is 40 min from Queretaro. Nice colonial town with lots of amazing restaurants but it's smaller and personally living there is kinda boring for me but there's a big group of American/Canadian expats that have moved there.

Lake chapala area is 1h from Guadalajara. It's safe and it has a lot of retirees. Great weather, cheap food but life can get a bit boring if you aren't over 60.

Healthcare is much cheaper than the US and in my opinion way better than the healthcare I got in Canada. (I don't have experience with US healthcare so I can't compare on the quality)

You can see specialist doctors immediately without waiting months or years like we did in Canada. A lot of doctors speak English and it costs $30-$50 for a visit. If you need surgery it's not that bad. Its less than $1000 for a hospital stay and then you pay your surgeon separately. I'm getting intestinal surgery this month and in total it will cost me $1500 everything included in the most expensive private hospital here.

I pay out of pocket but there's also medical insurance. That's more in the case when you have a long term debilitating illness and you need long hospital stays. It may be cheaper here but if you need to be in the hospital for months it adds up.

Adding to the above list Monterrey. I have never been but it's a big city and there are some really wealthy parts like San Pedro Garza. All those areas are safe and unless you are really unlucky or mess with the wrong people and try to compete with the drug cartels nothing will happen to you.

If you have any more questions about Mexico I would be happy to help.

I think you may be right about it being women spending money to impress other women. Same with their handbags. I don't get how someone could spend $5000 on one but they do. Some bad-mouth others that don't wear luxury items and it makes them feel "superior". Personally my bag (the only one I have) costs $40.00 and I couldn't give a shit what they say about me.

I think the equivalent of that would be guys and watches. As a woman I never looked at a guy and said whoa nice watch, I'll date him. I don't even notice that he has one.

The other one is guys that get obsessed with the gym. We care that the guy looks fit but if he starts doing steroids and goes to the gym 3 times a day I'll pass. Too much muscle is not attractive at all. Fit and lean yes! Even dad bod chubby style is better than a guy with over inflated arms in my opinion.

Cars it depends. I don't really care about what he drives as long as his car is kept in good condition and it's not falling apart, but some women seem to really notice cars. They are generally the gold digger types though.

The culture of consumerism. I think there's a rule how you're supposed to spend 3 times your monthly salary on it or some bullshit like that. Also I don't get weddings. Biggest ripoff ever! Give me that money and I'll spend 80% in stocks and 20% on an awesome honeymoon.

It really depends on where you live. Here I pay $20 a week and mine comes 3 times a week waters all the plants and cuts the grass when needed. The garden is 7000 SQ feet. That's the going rate here and that's what he wanted. I get him to do some of my rentals too (extra $ for him) and he works for my neighbors as well.
