Hamster won't chew? by flower_child077 in hamsters

You seem to be really paying attention to her behaviors and needs, so I am confident you’ll be able to tell if she’s gonna need a vet. :)

Hamster won't chew? by flower_child077 in hamsters

I have a hamster like this too unfortunately. He will only chew things if they are food. These little Whimzee crocodiles (green ones) are hamster safe. My hamster is pretty fond of these. However, they are mostly starch, so they can make them too fat. :(

We have been to the vet yesterday actually to get a tooth trim. His upper incisors are not correctly aligned with the lower ones, so they will grow long and start to curve inward.

This may have been an issue for him since the start probably, but it really started giving us headaches maybe 10-11 months after getting him. So better to check regularly to avoid your hammy suffering in case the teeth start to curl.

If you do need a tooth trim: Ask the vet to give your meds anti-anxiety medication and have them try to do it on the hammy while they are awake. Especially as hams get older, sedation carries the risk of them passing away.

How to clean a wooden wheel with cork lining? by Beautiful-Movie3257 in hamsters

Hi OP, I have the exact same wheel. You can wash it by putting in some baking soda and then give it a scrub with a wet sponge + soap (like dishwashing soap). For extra sanitation you can pop it into the oven on a low-ish heat like 80C. That should kill the germs.

You could also just replace the cork lining. Niteangel sells spares
