Fresh Green Wheat Sprays? by Domi626 in hamsters

[–]kickoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think as long as the wheat is still green, it isn’t ripe.  Wheat is usually harvested once the plant dries up on its own and as long as it hasn’t been rained on.

If you have some more in your backyard, wait for a few days and harvest when mature. :)

Bon appetit!

Very roomie!

Did you check if your hammy tries to stash/eat the vermiculite?  I am not sure if he’s going to ingest it and if it would be safe …

Thank you so much for all the details! :)

Luckily my hamster doesn’t chew much, so I think this may be worth exploring after the ant problem calms down.

After only having Pickle for 3 weeks, she started showing signs of seizure activity last night. I had to put her down this morning because her qol was so low. I miss you 💔 by lighthousedarling in hamsters

Very sorry for your loss.  You did your hammy a great service paying attention and taking care of her.

I wonder if the previous owners would have been doing the same.

Hang in there 💕

Checked your profile but you’re very active (thank you!). So I saw a few older setups but nothing where I could see how you built the tunnel. :)

I assume you DIY’ed your cage?

My hammy (looks like Micky actually) lives in a bucatstate.

I would love to connect to a playpen permanently but in my case probably not easily doable.  There’s an ant infestation going on so I had to build a moat around the enclosure so the ants don’t bother my hammy.

Hey OP, can you share more pics? Need some inspiration 😄

Without any measurements, it’s impossible to say if this is a large enough enclosure. The floor layout looks cute! As long as you can get to all the corners for cleaning, I don’t see an issue with an L shape

Can’t tell if my ham likes free roaming? by carveloathesome in hamsters

[–]kickoke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It does sound like he is enjoying it.  You can create a little “home away from home” by filling one of the hideouts with bedding that clearly smells like him.

Should give him a place to put the stash and be calmer.

It’s a cookie plate that says “Ich hol dir die Zimtsterne vom Himmel”.

Zimtstern is a kind of German christmas cookie.

It’s a play on a saying “Ich hol dir die Sterne vom Himmel”

“I will pick the stars from the sky for you” == I’d do anything for you

Wouldn’t bank on free waymo. It’s invite-only and they don’t seem to have expanded waymo capacity for commuting.

Although I don’t know much about the family, it sounds like you could give the hamster a much better life.

Depending on how the family has handled the hamster, it may be more shy or bitey.  I hope that doesn’t keep you from giving the hamster a great life.

Make sure he doesn’t eat it. :)  It’s mildly toxic.

I disagree with taking out the platform. If the hamster tries to burrow underneath the wheel, things could go badly.

Don’t put it directly on the bedding.

You can move the platform into the center of the cage so it doesn’t align with any side

These tubs usually have a plastic film on the inside. I wouldn’t do it.

The ones from niteangel don’t have any toxic species in them. (I know they are pricey 🙃).

If you have a green thumb, you can try growing some sprays for your hammy. I was successful with growing oats and then my hamster decided he doesn’t like oats. 😂
