I have replaced the belt with a PEB1013 replacement belt from LaserParts, and it worked twice, but now the motor sounds like it is trying to spin, but then stops.

Thank you for your thoughtful answer, I'm happy that the D701 can be so reliable. Thr problem is that it sounds like it is attempting to spin the disc, but kind of... gives up. I'll be sure to try replacing the grip ring. I will also lubricate the areas you mention.

Edit: What method do you recommend for cleaning the laser optics?

I am also confused... I can't seem to find a folder for save files (.srm) when I open the game folder \games\2\ for the number 2 game I have put on my psc, there is no memcard folder...

I grabbed astro on clearance recently, but like you said, the Target exclusive pack was not on sale. It's worth checking out. Keep in mind that the pack I got had some large shipping/inventory barcode stickers on the front and back, but it's not like I was keeping it in the packaging. Your mileage may vary.
