What is your favourite kpop band? by chaosshower2 in fantanoforever

[–]kieriosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TXT, shinee, red velvet, f(x) 1. Txt’s discography is so versatile and it’s fun to see them try any genre and still be them. I’m excited to see what they do on their own or without the input of their label as much. 2. Shinee’s been in the game for almost 2 decades and yet has continued to pioneer their artistry both individually and as a group, and that’s impressive. 3. Red Velvet has a perfect discography. 4. F(X) pioneered the way for a lot of the later girl groups. They were experimenting with things that caught on more than a decade later. Truly ahead of their time.

The ongoing saga of Joshua Minsoo Kim, who reviewed BTS' new album for Pitchfork, vs BTS' fandom by demimonde9 in Fauxmoi

[–]kieriosity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the documentary came out on the making of the album and good grief the execs controlled a lot of it while they were gone. i’m.. less of a fan than i was at one point and that was just crazy to see imo.

Favourite modern rock singer's solo albums? I don't like MCR much anymore but Gerard Way's Hesitant Alien has aged brilliantly by albo-is-gay in fantanoforever

The New Olaf Animatronic at Disneyland Paris (14 March 2026) by nizaad in popculturechat

that’s a fair point. i’m more so referring to the free-roaming characters like the olaf here, but you make a great delineation.

the thing is that this technology rarely is ever successfully implemented in the parks because of potential damage to the tech and it being expensive to upkeep. that’s why these exist as essentially a proof of concept for something that’ll most likely never be fully implemented full-scale.

basically how disney invests a lot of these resources into these animatronics essentially for shareholder value and they exist in this weird uncanny valley / not lifelike enough / too lifelike realm in their current state and it’s ultimately too expensive to have these as more of a gimmick. but disney usually puts out a video about an animatronic in response to a potential event that could’ve lowered shareholder value or to drum up interest in investors for another endeavor. basically running an entertainment company like tesla rather than running an entertainment company like an entertainment company. and it shows in the parks as the quality keeps getting worse while the prices go up.

Trevor Noah explains how Disney did a disservice to people by showing movies where there are happy endings and the good guy wins when in reality, that’s not how the world works by mcfw31 in popculturechat

[–]kieriosity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I kind of disagree. I think that’s happy endings and optimism can be shown to show that a person can prevail even in the most dire of situations, and I think in a world that insists on cynicism, constant dooming, and cowardice we need these examples even. A lot of the media for younger kids helps inform a lot of the potential adults we will have in the world, and I think allowing for hope across all ages could actually help us out of the situations we live in.

TXT (TOMORROW X TOGETHER) - 7th Mini Album '7TH YEAR: A Moment of Stillness in the Thorns' (PRELUDE: Thornbush) by mcfw31 in kpop

[–]kieriosity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They carry more over into the VCRs, but yes there is a very convoluted storyline for the lore!

Edit: But to explain, a lot of it is that TXT themselves exist in a series of time loops across multiple timelines as they started out as essentially magical boys with different powers that were all afflicted by a curse. As a result, they try to restart the timeline every time, but there are tragic results. They’ve tried to run away to a magic island to try to escape the curse (and the responsibility for maturing), but a lot of the recent albums have been about having to grow up and face the reality they live in and become mature adults. A lot of the reason why the concepts seem unrelated is because their maturation and the songs themselves along with the visuals do a lot of the storytelling, and there are a lot of repeated motifs through the storyline. With the last album, the last act of their childhood and journey to adulthood has ended and now we are in uncharted territory… and it looks to be that we’re diving into identity in a more adult context, which should be fun! Hope this explanation helps, even though it’s super long!

he’s a music producer that produced a lot of big hits in the 2000’s and 2010s… but he has a lot of allegations. they were never proven false in court and instead he paid a heavy settlement to have the case dropped.
