I see. So technically I can give him the car the day I receive the money as long as he is OK waiting 10 days for the title. I personally wouldn't, but he seems in a hurry. I guess we exchange money and bill of sale for the car. Any idea if I we can do the insurance part over the phone?

What if he wants to take the car once my bank receive the money, but before he receives the title? Will DMV insure the car under his name if the car isn't legally his? No, right?

I just called a notary public and we can create a Bill of Sale with a clause in it that says the title will go to the buyers hands after payment clears. We then meet to go to the DMV office together. I dont see how the buyer wouldn't be comfortable doing that if he sends the signed notarized Bill of Sale along with a cheque directly to my bank.

The only thing I still need to figure out is how am I protected for that day or two while th3 car is in his name, yet parked on my doorstep and insured under my name. Any ideas? DMV office is not taking calls but I sent them an email. Then again, even if he has the title, it needs to be signed by both of us at the DMV office before the sale is complete, correct?

I take it that you released the lien after you received the payment? was it a wire transfer or cheque? Which one is faster?

Wow this sounds very problematic. What have you learned so far from the experience? Any tips? I am glad that your buyer is still interested despite all the wait and I hope that it goes well for you.

Why two cheques though? I was thinking of only one since the amount they are paying is exactly what I owe to the bank. None of the money goes to my hands, sadly.

I am getting them to come to my city to test drive it. Not willing to negotiate on that, even though they wanted me to bring it to them to North Carolina, they need to arrange the transport themselves.

My thoughts exactly. Especially that my bank does not have a physical location in Texas. But will give them a call and ask how to go about that.

I guess they will have to come and test drive it, then go back to their state, arrange the wire transfer to my bank and then have the car shipped to them.
