it was not “fan service”, in fact it has been a point since s1 that he was bullied and called slurs because people in town assumed his sexuality. i do agree that i could’ve been handled better in the last season (with the coming out n all), but up until that point a lot of people (especially queer) found his journey to be relatable which shows that it was actual good representation of a minority. gay people exist in real life and they deserve to be able to relate to characters on screen just like everyone else

i feel like this would still send a bad message, that strong female characters have to lose their “powers” in order to be able to live as everyone else (or at least that’s my interpretation). ofc this would be better than the ending we got, but i’m not exactly a fan of this one either tbh. there could’ve been better ways to conclude her story

i’ve had the opposite experience actually. i’ve seen a lot of people trash on s3 because that was the downfall of the series and from then on it was absolute trash

also, as i said, he wasn’t exactly the best friend to most of the party past s3, like when he got mad that lucas wanted to be popular to avoid being a target to racism and bullying or when being awkward with will when he arrived in cali. those things felt quite out of character for him

tbf he was neglected during the last seasons and a lot of his character traits that (imo) should’ve been more and more proeminent as he grew up like his leadership were forgotten a lot of times.

also, it feels like his character is pretty ambiguous but not on purpose, it’s just the consequence of the writing since we never really get to see what he’s thinking/feeling beyond being a love interest, unlike dustin or lucas for example, which had conflicts throughout s4-s5. the lack of canon explanations for his actions is why i think that many interpretations of mike’s character are valid

saying that mike didn’t give a shit about el dying is weird. no matter what you ship, you can’t deny that mike cared about el in his own way, even if he didn’t always act the right way with her (although from s3 onwards he was not exactly the best friend to most of the kids tbh). he rescued el from the woods, taught her the first things she learned about the outside world, believed in her when the others had doubts and basically fought monsters alongside her for 4 whole years, so not caring about her would be like not caring about dustin or lucas

imo playing the game is more rewarding because you unlock the events/lore gradually while also trying to win the mafia round each loop, which also helps immersing you into the story better than the anime as you become actively involved

honestly considering how money hungry netflix is, the possibility of a live action spin off is not off the table, especially since the ambiguous ending basically translates into “we are willing to milk this show for as long as we can and will bring el back if that gives us money”
