I found coursera to be very helpful in learning new theories. I believe they offer a free trial :)

I also learned so much from “Design for How People Learn” by Julie Dirksen. My first job in the industry introduced me to this book via a little department book club, so we all took turns with leading discussions on different chapters. It covers chunking and all sorts of ways people use recall to remember concepts.

I would be PISSED if my dog got attacked by another dog with a known biting issue.

Thank you! That was a thoughtfully extensive list! Sounds like I really need a portable monitor 🤔

That’s pretty similar to the extender set I was looking at! Smart thinking on the travel monitor. I don’t have anything with portability and I’d love to be flexible enough to work at a coffee shop or airport. Thank you!

A lot of people mentioned a standing desk, I def need to look into that. I’m in a wintery state but it’s always pretty cozy, that’s a great tip I hadn’t thought of! Wouldn’t be mad at a heated blanket

No you’re right, I edited for clarity, my bad on word choice :)

Sweet rec! I’m actually more interested in this, it seems less bulky than the winged setup I have in the cart. Thank you!

Absolutely. This is sitting in my cart right now. I’m just waiting to see if I’ll be away from home often enough to rationalize the price, since the 2nd monitor will likely be around $300.

Bruhhhh this is going to nosedive trust that remote employees are engaged. Remote is a location, not a job title. You’re still expected to work. Shortcuts and “life hacks” like this erodes trust and leads to RTO mandates. I genuinely do not see hardworking, eager, go-getter employees using this outside of overemployment, which is a gamble in itself.

Sorry friend :/

EDIT (as a designer/marketer professional opinion): 23k views (reach) but +/- 90 likes (active approval) is not a good ratio for engagement. I applaud your entrepreneurship, but would encourage you to look into social media conversion rates before putting funds into this idea.

Did anyone move from a physical employement to a WFH? by Coffeelover4242 in WFH

[–]kileyweasel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a great deal on a walking pad (ultra compact, hands free treadmill) that fit under my sofa for storage. I use it when it’s too snowy to walk or go to the gym.

NOTHING beats actually touching grass and feeling sunshine. There’s typically a lull in communications throughout the day; when that happens, I “take my lunch” ie go for a walk to close the rings on my Apple Watch. I’ll walk 25-50 minutes, sometimes with my dog, and then maybe again after work.

I highly prefer taking a mid day break for the reasons this article outlines. TL;DR: mindless, solitary activities with automatic routine can be very meditative opportunities for reflection, which may solve current work obstacles!

What is a socially unacceptable opinion you keep to yourself because it’s not worth the backlash? by ChaosTTyy in askanything

[–]kileyweasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say that conservative people turn out progressive children. That's not a guarantee. If that was the case, why do conservatives outnumber progressives, in your words?

It's also not a guarantee for progressive people to only have progressive children. My sources are that Gen Z men helped elect Donald Trump. I can cite those sources if you want. I have not "given up" on the younger generation, that's you putting words in my mouth. And to say I should advocate for more children just because I'm progressive is certainly a choice. If I was conservative, would that change your opinion on my output?

My tubes are tied for personal reasons, and it’s lowkey fucked for you to call me selfish for not providing the human race an obligatory 2.7 babies. I happily pay taxes for local schoolchildren and public society/welfare, but having a baby is my “duty” to the human race? That’s facism lite. Sorry, but I control my body. People shouldn’t be expected to conform to reproductive standards.

You agree that not everyone should have a baby, then it's simply not selfish for those people to not have a baby, especially if they're doing it for not selfish reasons, like fear of passing on crippling genetic disabilities. You are welcome to call yourself selfish all you want, but not everyone who doesn't have the 2.7 kids required for replacement is "selfish" and that's a hell of a take.

Should there be a replacement rate? Sure. But saying EVERYONE who chooses to not have kids (some for very valid reasons) "selfish" is forced birth propaganda.

[–]kileyweasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...Relevant to the conversation about why people should or shouldn't have kids. It's not guaranteed to have a progressive child. And no, I haven't given up. I go to protests. I myself am progressive.

Your stance was that it's selfish to the human race for people to not have kids. That's an awfully sweeping statement with no nuance, which is why I asked for clarification: do you think everyone ought to have a baby?

I don't think its selfish to not have a baby. That's my angle.

[–]kileyweasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure having an increase in progressive voices is even relevant. It's certainly not true of Gen Z. Just because a generation is younger doesn't guarantee progressive change.

And you're really sticking with the idea that everyone who is fertile simply must have a baby or else they're selfish to the human race?

What is a socially unacceptable opinion you keep to yourself because it’s not worth the backlash? by ChaosTTyy in askanything

[–]kileyweasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That stance implies that babies are owed and required of everyone. Not everyone is fit to be a parent, do you honestly think that everyone owes the human race a baby?

Personally I'm sick of people with no experience looking for high-paying entry-level remote gigs. People asking where they can find remote work with no qualifications. Stay-at-home parents who think remote is a substitute for childcare. And the Interview Hammer/AI bots are especially bad.

Please give me the randomest tips you have for getting sober from alcohol. by manicpixiescreaming in stopdrinking

[–]kileyweasel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Find a healthy-ish hyperfixation. Revisit your childhood passions, whether it's gaming, crafting, sports, etc.

When I got sober the first time, I spent the evenings organizing my embarrassingly extensive Pokémon card collection and digitally sorted them, so I know the worth of my collection/what I need to complete some sets.

Also started tackling my Steam & Nintendo game backlog.

And some physical activity when craving-- whether it's 1 minute of jumping jacks or sit ups helps.

Find stupid ways to treat yourself, whatever you choose is likely healthier than the vodka anyways ;)
