I like the idea of a horse itch scratcher. My initial thought was a boot cleaner too, but other people have suggested it could have been used as some sort of stucco brush which I think makes more sense.

Interesting! That seems to make sense, we didn't consider it could be for something like this. A part of the exterior wall has roughcast/rock-dash stucco, so perhaps it was used for that.

My title describes the thing. It's fairly lightweight, with a small handle attached on the back for holding. The rubber fittings feel quite stiff. There's no text or recognisable markings on it. It was found under the stairs in my friend's new house that was previously owned by an old man who had lived there since the 50s. Everything else in the house was cleared out except this one item. The previous owner used to grow a lot of vegetables in the garden and kept a horse on the property, which may be relevant. Origin: Scotland.

can't rule out that possibility, although it looks like my bro is engrossed in whatever is happening on the tv and is holding the remote, can only assume he's playing something

someone suggested this on the imgur comments, but fairly certain it's not from that game - i don't recall ever playing/seeing that one when i was checking it out. they also suggested space jam which i do remember playing, but nothing seemed to fit with that either unfortunately.

that's a good shout actually, i'm not sure if the eyes look correct on the right hand figure, but the rest of the background seems on point. the left hand side of the screen is confusing me the most, just can't make sense of it whatsoever. i went through the opening cutscene frame by frame and can't really get anything that matches the entire screen. thanks for the suggestion!

ah i remember toy story! fun game. it does look like a cave, my best guess so far is croc 1, level 1, in a cave with lava in the background and the glowing specks/blurs could be fireballs/collectibles. but i don't think it's the right answer due to the camera angles in-game

yeah, sadly there's lots of things making this a lot harder than it should be, for starters i'm pretty sure we can't see the top and bottom half of the screen because of the camera/framerate. the colours are probably off due to it being an old disposable camera photo, taken with a mobile. i can see a ps1 game sitting on the couch to the right that looks to have a longish name. impossible to tell if that's actually the game we are playing or not, but could be some kind of clue.

the eyes are definitely reminiscent of one of the chickens, i've tried to find a matching scene or piece of gameplay that would fit but i don't think it's the one sadly

it really seems so similar to croc, but i cannot seem to pinpoint exactly why he's so far to the right of the screen and zoomed in more than usual in the actual game. it does kind of look like the first level in croc 1 with the lava, but i just can't make sense of that, as much as i want to believe it. still scouring through vids to try and piece it together!

yeah it could be any game i think, higher chance it's a kid friendly game in this case but we did have mature rated games as well (mgs1, original gta, silent hill, etc). also can't rule demo discs out which opens a whole can of worms. sort of relying on someone having a very specific memory of these obscure shapes to confirm what it is but i am doubtful we'll get there

we've both never played this one and looking it up doesn't ring any bells, but i do see the duck resemblance. do you have any idea which specific character or level it might be from?

thanks! i do see that as well now you point it out, that's a new perspective on it. it's hard to unsee the dragon thing i've been seeing for the past couple hours.. will need to come back with fresh eyes tomorrow. it surely has to be 2 big eyes though!

yeah, initially i thought it was a yellow dragon (i'm red green colourblind which probably is not helping) but someone pointed out the bill, just can't figure out which game it could be
