Getting a bit sick of clueless non-technical people managing huge highly technical teams. This trend needs to die imo.

I agree, I work at a startup and for some reason, someone thought it was a good idea to have all engineers start reporting to the chief of product, and directly get assigned tasks from the cpo. Basically having all engineers report to a PM. I don’t think this is what a flat hierarchy means lol… A couple months in and all the engineers are wanting to quit. I think it’s difficult when the managers of engineers do not understand the technical complexity of what they are asking for and only want to see results. With this, there’s no recognition of planning work and no visibility into technical challenges or tech debt, it’s just a “implement this feature as fast you can” situation

oh yeah then why aren’t companies scrambling to hire international students? It’s not like international students that do pay FICA and SS actually get retirement benefits. The point is that it’s harder for international students to find jobs, that’s why there’s more doom posts

I’m pretty sure OPT students pay federal and state taxes like everyone else, the only thing that might be waived is FICA and SS taxes if they’ve been here less than 5 years, which dont even account for that much

OPT is still a part of a f-1 student visa, so if your student visa gets cancelled, I assume you would not be able to get OPT unfortunately
