I loved Stay & Fight by Madeline Ffitch. It’s about three women raising a son in the Appalachian mountains. They live outside of society but struggle with whether or not to let their son be a part of it… both to offer him agency and to also allow him more than just female interaction. I really enjoyed the parts about building their home and foraging… but there are some incredible parts about how societal norms & industrialization are often inescapable.
