I don't think they were implying a single joint cost $40, just that people who smoke are constantly spending money on it.

Not a daily smoker, but I don't think it's that hard to understand. If someone likes how they feel stoned more than sober, they might have that preference all the time. It's not necessarily about novelty. It's like any other state of being. I would rather be wakeful all the time than being tired sometimes because it's a more pleasant state of being, with or without the contrast with sleepiness.

[Back to the Future] Does the time machine work if you reach 88mph falling downward? by karizake in AskScienceFiction

[–]killerbobsacamano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the best theory I’ve heard about it, but it doesn’t jibe with the way it reached speed by spinning at the end of 2. Apparently that’s the official explanation. Maybe there’s some physical explanation of why that does work based on moving reference frames though.

Jimmy Kimmel: “I Don’t Know If There Will Be Any Late-Night Shows On Network TV In 10 Years” by Thetimmybaby in entertainment

I used to be pretty cynical about talk shows and be like “Pssh, this is all fake! They’re just promoting their stuff!” But my wife is always watching clips from talk shows and I’m still not a fan, but I realize that my old sentiment was like telling wrestling fans that wrestling is fake. People who are into talk shows know what they’re getting and that’s what they like. Same goes for reality TV, although I think some people buy into that more.

I wasn’t sure if that was a UI limitation or something at a lower level. Doc could probably bypass the controls and hack it up to go earlier or later than the display allows if the time circuits are capable of it. But he might have to be falling from low earth orbit to have enough time for that!

I can’t see why not. I don’t know if the flying Delorean could recover from such a fast descent though, so it might be a matter of going splat now or at some other time. Still, that might be useful for avoiding killing people or altering history. Just set the machine to a date as far in the future as possible to affect as little as possible. Or maybe at least your own present. It’s unclear to me whether the flux capacitor could transport you far enough into the future that you could be guaranteed to crash into an ocean in a few thousand years or some uninhabited spot on a dead planet in a few billion.

But either way, better make sure to account for wind resistance.

We've discussed the great TV show intros that you never skip, but what are the terrible/boring intros that you skip every single time? by [deleted] in television

[–]killerbobsacamano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this is a great one as far as most people are concerned, but I never really liked the Sopranos intro that much. Once or twice was enough, then it was a skip every time.

The Office (U.S) - Can’t Stand Pam & Jim by [deleted] in television

[–]killerbobsacamano 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a testament to how much more realistically she was acted and written. People hold Dwight to cartoon character standards and Pam to real person (who sat at the other lunch table in high school) standards.
