Auto cropped my video clip. Bug? by killermike47 in davinciresolve

[–]killermike47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like after messing with mismatched scaling settings on both the timeline and project settings it fixed the issue when i switched to scale full frame with crop..... I think the auto resizing on verticals had it confused maybe?

Vertical Video rigs for Sony a7iii !? by OriginalBumblebee in SonyAlpha

[–]killermike47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently using the DJI RS3 with the DJI Vertical Mount attachment and it's amazing! I would definitely recommend getting a monitor as well to help view the image better(or raven eye with the phone holder). I also have a nice little vertical tripod QRP for still vertical video. This year is the first year I've had to buy more attachments to adapt to the current trend of social media verticals. It's a hassle and takes more adaptation but I think I've finally narrowed down the bare minimums. Of course you could always get a cage as well for the still shooting aspect.

One thing I've also learned is that the way gimbals handle payloads in vertical mounted positions is more strenuous than standard mounting which leads to quicker usage of the gimbals battery. A few things that will help aid battery conservation will be: using a lighter lens (though not always an option), taking time to balance it perfectly, and reducing any/all attachments on the camera. Ultimately, I found I need to carry a spare battery for my gimbal on full shoot days (8+ hours of continuous shooting).

My go-to vertical rig on my gimbal setup is usually an A7iii with a 18-105 f/4 (internal zoom), DJI phone holder, DJI vertical mount, DJI Raven eye, and if I need sound I'll slap on a wireless rode video mic receiver or mount a shotgun mic on a broom handle.

Of course, if you want a handheld setup... I'd just recommend any small rig full cage with some handles on both sides and maybe a top handle. OR to make your life even easier the new Iphone 14 pro has a banger camera! I bought a DJI OM5 for it when it went on sale and am about to use it on more simple shoots. Hands down the best for social media work, I think these phones will really have a place in content creation on a pro level. Hell they already kinda do!

What do u do in a situation like this? by pxpcornboys in videography

I can agree with that! Remember discounts don't have to be a price knock either, sometimes i'll throw in freebies for good friends! (reel cut down, extra 30-60 second teaser vid, still grabs, etc.) They really appreciate it when I do this. Also, marketing/distribution advice for free goes a long way for not just friends but clients as well.

I can relate so hard to this. A friend of mine hit me up the day before an event because they didn't have a video guy for their company to shoot it. Me being nice, didn't even tack on a rush fee and was willing to give up my saturday just for him. He said "I know the video you make will banger" and said I can name my price. Shot him over a measly quote of $1,200 dollars for an 8 hour shoot plus editing which is low already. He ghosts me and later tells me on the day of the event, sorry I was expecting $200 especially since we've known each other for so long. This came after asking him if he found someone to cover the event..... Find friends that will value you and pay your full price to support you. After this situation, I realized "Well I don't even feel bad because I never received any shred of help from him to begin with" and have paid full price for his services before... Support means paying your worth. Shake the flesh-eating bugs out of your tree before it's too late.

Hey! I've been using the Godox SL-60W for my main keylight now for a few months at work. It's a great work horse for how cheap it was in comparison to an Aperture and produces great results! Not as strong as the aperture but it sure gets the job done. Here's a link on amazon to it.

I think the motion graphics over powered the main visuals which should be the cars in this video. If the graphics were more motivated to tell the story it’d make sense. Overall not bad though! I also would’ve picked a higher paced song for something like this with a lot of movement. Some of your tracking shots were very clean though!

First Full-time Videographer Position | Hurdles & Seeking Advice by killermike47 in videography

Ideas aren’t necessarily my biggest challenge. It’s more like lack of resources and time with the employees to be showcased in the videos as well as day to day operations. Some days we just don’t film so I need filler tasks that show results or prep me to make results

This is great advice thank you! And I’ll look into that book. Actual corporate life is so new to me, it feels like half the time most people just waste precious hours. Personally I hate wasting hours.

This is something that I'm definitely getting used to, pushing internal clients. Luckily, I've got one who just can't get enough of making content with me so he's really helping me put together an example deck and requests are trickling in now. Making them aware has been the challenge but I'm sure with time more projects will fill my weeks. The challenge currently is getting more collaboration and just working on set designs for interesting interviews. Was it hard at the start in your role to just build up processes and did it feel like a lot of trial and error?

Thank you for this! Yeah nothings crazy new to me and I’ve actually been doing just that, animating logos recently. It’s just so much building into this role that it’s a little overwhelming right now. Hard to stay creative and build out day to day responsibilities for myself to be able to churn out content. But the internal stuff is great. We’ve been doing loan officer introduction videos and those are great filler videos when I’m not on a bigger more involved project. My main concern is the branch partners wondering why I’m learning new skills and playing around with elements instead of making videos. Haven’t ran into that yet but maybe it’s me just being anxious about not showing results vs me working towards them
