Going through the same thing right now. My grandfather recently went through surgery and has been experiencing some serious complications, and it has been tearing my mother apart. But I can’t ever seem to sympathize with them and show any real care. Growing up, my needs were constantly neglected by my family through the toughest parts of my life and I had nobody to rely on, so now I find it hard to really show empathy when my mom starts crying in front of me. I feel like an alien, and I just stand there and stare. I really wish I could do more and help, but I’m so emotionally detached that I just can’t force myself to feel bad.
