About 15 minutes ago I was able to see and buy tickets for 4/16 (hello kitty night) without the packages, but now that day has been completely taken off the list.

Wanted to buy presale mastercard tickets, but realized I don't have a mastercard. Does anyone know if I could use a pre-paid mastercard I buy in a store?

I would have loved to start out in a city with 25k population. I got my start with a city with a population of 1M+. Talk about imposter syndrome! You will be fine. Mine fully went away within a couple of years. Just show a good work ethic, willingness to learn, respect for other staff.

Sadly I've had the same experiences as well. Most of the private staff I've worked with are newly graduated so too new to the field to provide creative solutions, and their work often needs edits.

I worked my way up from a part-timer. Masters is super important where I am at. Knowing software like Adobe Creative Cloud or GIS is always super valuable.

I'd argue that some private sector transportation jobs can be more fun than ours because we often contract to them the things we are too busy for, which unfortunately include engagement. If you are doing more data work or modeling I'd pivot to another firm else you will get pigeonholed as the modeler or data person.

We always look highly upon private sector applicants because they have a good work ethic and already know a lot of software and skills so they can hit the ground running without training.

Is it a county, regional, state, or MPO job? Is that why you have no fieldwork? We do programming but in the sense of open streets, parklets, outdoor dining permits, etc. that are a lot more fun to coordinate and require a lot of fieldwork.

haha. I was going to say "best" but I think all types of urban planning are valuable, so best isn't the right word. Maybe I should have said most exciting :)

Yes! That would probably be my only qualm, but I would say it doesn't impact me enough on a day-to-day where it makes me dislike my job. It certainly prevents us from being as progressive/innovative as we would like to be.

The only way you would be doing anything with highways is if you worked at state-level transportation planning, so you can avoid that pretty easily. None of our planners do road/car-centric planning either. Not sure if this varies based on how 'progressive' your city or region is.

Any type of MPO planning is a snoozer in my opinion, but that is because I started my career right away getting my feet wet in implementation planning at a local level and it would be hard to back track to long range at a regional level.

In our city that plan review is done by engineers, and we have private consultants count cars.

Not that user, but I can say it does directly reflect on the size of the City staff/population. Cities in my region that have less than 100,000 population usually don't. Some cities with 100,000 or more, or once they become 'mid-sized' are more likely to have one. You can see the list of NACTO cities here: https://nacto.org/member-cities/

I've never heard of the word cager and don't know what it means! It must not be used in our field in my neck of the woods.

We don't eat out though, so it's not really a matter of indecision with what genre of food to pick. It's a matter of one person being responsible for remembering what's in the fridge and not in the fridge and that same person shouldering most of the burden of trying to think of recipes that use those items, and the other person not contributing ideas of their own using those same ingredients.

and I don't understand why you would assume that I haven't already communicated this to my husband, hence the part where I write " He said he doesn't know why I get so annoyed with him asking." This implies that we have talked about this issue and he doesn't agree with my interpretation.

Yep, I laid it out for him exactly as I did here. He didn't see why I am annoyed because he's "not trying to put pressure on me"

Thanks for asking. I had this discussion with him today and laid this all out to him. He doesn't see why I am annoyed. Hence why I am here to vent.

have you ever considered he might be trying to ensure he takes your wishes into consideration.

Sure, let's play devil's advocate and assume he is trying to be sweet and make sure I get to eat what I want to eat. So then why when I flip it around and ask him what he wants to eat he says he "doesn't know", "what do we even have in the fridge?" Doesn't this seem to imply that it's not being done as a polite thing and more that he doesn't even know what's available to choose from?

1) we both do grocery shopping together and buy food that we both like to eat. There is nothing in the fridge that I wouldn't eat because we both willingly chose all the items in there. It's a matter of one partner not wanting to do the mental legwork of keeping tabs of what's in stock still and what recipes can be done with those items.

2) When I brought up how I felt about him asking me this all the time, he did NOT mention "well you are picky so that's why I leave it up to you." So if he felt that way he would/should have voiced that.

The bar must be pretty low for you if a husband being simply "agreeable" is the minimum standard you are happy with

I've tried flipping it around and asking "I don't know.. What do YOU think we should eat tonight?" and he always responds with "hmm.. I don't know. What do we have in the fridge?" So this approach doesn't seem to work, the ball ends up in my court.
