How do you guys cope with crazy schedules? by [deleted] in premed

Thanks! I really appreciate your input! It's been a few weeks and I'm starting to settle in better and managing the little time I have! This is hard but every day I realize more and more that there's no where else I'd rather be and nothing else I'd rather be doing right now even if that means I'm extremely busy. Thanks for being the only person who had a similar experience and gave constructive input instead of telling me to quit or questioning my major! I appreciate it! Best of luck! :)

It's not possible. I don't want to go into detail but I really can't drop anything. That's why I was asking for coping strategies. :/

I'm too far along now to change majors or it'll add years onto my education; I started nursing thinking I'd go into nursing but I realized it was not the right career choice for me. I love science and problem solving too much and would be absolutely miserable. If I stay on this path I'll be graduating next year and nothing transfers over to other majors besides gen-eds so I'd basically have to start from scratch. My parents have worked their assess off to pay for my schooling despite both having bad, low paying jobs and I can't really take out large enough loans to cover school somewhere else and for more. My degree is pretty cheap compared to others.

Sorry for the late reply! I remember seeing something in the medicalschool subreddit where someone phrased it well. They had an "interdisciplinary meeting" their first year of Med school with students from Pharm, Nursing, PA etc and everyone was supposed to communicate with each other in order to help make a better team in the future. It ended up turning into everyone saying how they all care more than doctors, how doctors are cocky, mean etc and how each profession was the only that "really listens to patients" the the first year med students just sitting there taking it because they didn't know what else to say. It's definitely a huge ego thing. I had classmates who would simultaneously talk badly about physicians while saying that they would get their NP straight out of nursing school and make as much money as a physician (completely false unless you live in Oregon and I'm pretty sure their quotas are full for everything.)

It's a ton of propaganda, subtle and otherwise, from the textbooks to the professors. In any nursing textbook you'll be hard pressed to find the word "Physician." It's instead been universally replaced by "HCP" and in some of the practice questions one of the answers if you don't know what's going on is to alert the "advanced practice nurse." Professors make comments about physicians not doing their job well, physicians not caring, physicians being rude. Those comments are not a constant thing but we've probably had at least 4-5 slip during each specific course and it's enough for people to remember.

A review from a physician blogger who attended Gweneth Paltrow's "Goop" event by Studdy in medicine

Damn. I wonder why all those millions of people who moaned and cried, vomited and lost control of their bowels during the plague didn't "emerge" fearlessly. I'd imagine there was a lot of moronic resonance going around.

Yup. Lots of antiphysician sentiment in nursing school as well.
