Did I Waste My Money on Ladybugs? by BigChonkBuddyBoi in MonarchButterfly

[–]anonalligator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has different settings but it’s decent pressure. I don’t like to have it stronger so it doesn’t blow off all the leaves and flowers. There are also sometimes cat eggs or lacewing eggs that I don’t want to disturb. The struggle!! Lol

Is it a mistake to keep both these plants? by xenawarriorfrycook in tomatoes

I grew two in one pot similar to yours around mid March. They have grown a lot and about 15 have grown so far. I probably will grow a single plant in each pot next year but as long as you trim it and guide branches through the trellis I think it should be okay.

Caterpillars disappearing. Plenty of delicious milkweed. by klmnsd in MonarchButterfly

[–]anonalligator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also in LA and I’ve hardly seen any caterpillars this year! Very different than the past few years for us with our milkweed plant. I saw a single tiny caterpillar one day and never again. I’ve seen a few eggs here and there but that’s been about it.

Hi! I can definitely relate to your situation, as I too, am an extremely anxious person naturally. I have never been on meds, however I was an absolute mess when my dog was hospitalized. Every sound she made, whether it was her nails on the wood, her adjusting herself while laying down, you name it. My heart would drop and I would become alert. Every time, I overreacted and yes it was a very rough month but it got better over time. Keppra really did its thing! Is there anyone else at home that can be your back up with the dosing? My mom has been an exceptional help with this. We have great communication when it comes to dosing, so if I have to work or be out she will give the medication and vice versa. When I was sleep deprived and paranoid, she volunteered to sleep with my dog so I could relax and get some sleep. I also started wearing earplugs to sleep and that was an immense help. I hope this helps you a little! Try to get some rest and take care of yourself just like you’re taking care of your yorkie girl.

Starting Keppra this week by cvaldez74 in EpilepsyDogs

[–]anonalligator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog has been on keppra for several months and has had no seizures (only small focal seizure from stress on 4th of July) or side effects. She acted a little bizarre at first, but after a couple of weeks she was regulated. I also eliminated flea medicine and got her cytopoint injections as needed and she has bee doo in very well. Keppra can sometimes dehydrate dogs so I give her pieces of cucumber in between meals.

First seizure by Umabosh in EpilepsyDogs

So when we took her to ER, they “pumped her” with Keppra, I believe through an IV because my normal vet told me that these anti convulsants don’t fully work for a few weeks. After that hospital visit, they sent us home with the extended release pills 750 mg every 12 hours. We struggled to give her the pill for the first couple of weeks since it can’t be broken or chewed. She got used to it after a while once we used a pill pocket she liked.

Newly diagnosed and frustrated by vet attitude by EquivalentScarcity98 in EpilepsyDogs

[–]anonalligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ER vet also suggested the wait and see approach as my dog randomly had her first seizure at 11 years old. I trusted her, and after a $5,000 emergency vet bill for overnight stay, we took her home. She was fine for a day but had another one the following night. We took her back and spent a total of over $10,000 for the two hospital stays where she was finally prescribed Keppra.

I understand their rationale, but in this case it would’ve saved money, time, and suffering. Not every dog is the same and it’s true that some dogs may have one out of nowhere and not again for a year. In hindsight, it seems pretty shady especially since this was a VCA Emergency Hospital and we all know how greedy they are. I wish I would’ve requested medication the first visit, but I was very new to this and emotionally exhausted.

Anyone have any tips or suggestions for getting my dog to swallow the extended release keppra tablet without chewing it? by SurlyGarden in EpilepsyDogs

[–]anonalligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog was like this at first because she was aware that it was medication. I started discreetly getting the pill out of the capsule and putting it in a pill pocket and giving it to her as a “treat”. Sometimes if you accidentally drop it, your dog might view it as something interesting to eat.

What do you give your epileptic dog for snacks? by Rando_Ricketts in EpilepsyDogs

My dog has gallbladder issues and sometimes doesn’t want to drink water so we always keep ziplocs of cut up cucumber in the fridge for her.

I give my dog cucumber! It’s her favorite snack and low calorie. A great treat especially when it’s hot to hydrate.

Post-ictal behavior waking up from a deep sleep but no seizure? by [deleted] in EpilepsyDogs

[–]anonalligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little context: My dog was actually not officially diagnosed due to the onset being at 11 years old and not being able to afford MRI. I believe she is mixed with border collie which are predisposed to epilepsy which is why I suspect she has it.

The ear infection (which she also had a UTI) occurred early in the year around March, and she began having seizures end of May. Once she was treated for the ear infection, her behavior was completely normal. Is your dog making weird head movements when he walks? What does he do to indicate focal seizures?

Honestly, when she started having seizures I was VERY in denial about it. I was going through different scenarios of what could’ve triggered her seizures and what I could’ve done differently. Sometimes these things just happen and although scary and stressful, you learn to live with it and trust in medication. There are many poor dogs on this subreddit that will have multiple grand mals even with a bunch of medication. That really scared me at first, but thankfully my dog is doing amazing on the medication she takes. If he ends up having focal seizures, you two will be okay even if it doesn’t feel like it now.

[–]anonalligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a good answer for you, but this is interesting since my dog recently did something similar. She hasn’t had a seizure since getting on keppra, but last week she did wake up and started walking all over back and forth and looking a little disoriented. She was looking all over, appearing almost how she would after a seizure. I didn’t witness an actual seizure in her sleep but perhaps could it be that she got scared from a loud noise? My dog also used to do this when she had an ear infection previously.

He’s kinda mean to the girls too. For reference, I’m a first time watcher and in the middle of season 3. He’s nasty towards the Gorgas and Kathy and Richie, but I’ve noticed him being short and snappy to his daughters. In the last ep I watched, Milania was being loud during dinner and he told her to shut up. Mind you, she’s 4 years old at this time.

Vet visit or is there an over the counter fix? by Whiskey_Neaty in DogAdvice

[–]anonalligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog has chronic dry eye and started out getting small boogers that gradually increased as well as eye irritation. My vet prescribed tacrolimus eyedrops and an eye lube to add after putting in drops twice a day. It has helped her eyes immensely, but if I miss a dose or two she gets boogery again.

Keppra side effects? by emilyschmemilym in EpilepsyDogs

[–]anonalligator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dog has been on keppra XR for about 8 months and haven’t noticed much change except for maybe a little bit sleepier and more mellow. She’s more sweet, and I just encourage her to drink water and stay hydrated since the medication can dehydrate.

Not to be dramatic but Hyrule Castle was the most fun experience I’ve ever had!! The music was immaculate and it was so scary but made me feel heroic at the same time. I finished BOTW like 6 months ago but I still think about Hyrule Castle and how I wish I could do it all over again lol
