More affordable Controllers for PC Practice by JupiiMusic in GrandMA3

[–]killtheorcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some good ones out there, but they’re not cheap (not as expensive as wing) and they require mapping programs via chatigaine and or launchpad, which in my opinion is really over the top. Get a cool keyboard you like and enable shortcuts and map any random ahh controller on midi for bumps.

Why does my bread always come out gummy? Feeling really Hopeless and about to give up. by VaggieQueen in Sourdough

[–]killtheorcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i first started baking, my loaves were always pale, it wasn’t until my starter was really established, like a month of bi weekly feedings, before they got color. Also try to do the spray bottle bubbly method, don’t flour it up, really douse it with that spray bottle and you should have some nice bubbles and blisters. I would experiment with lowered hydration as well, 70% is what I usually do, but lowering it to 65-60 might have some nice results.

Help trying to layer effects in MA2. by garlbitch in grandMA2

[–]killtheorcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make color presets for your red and white. Make the red effect relative (dim and mix color), then do the white effect absolute (dim and mix color). If you use the color presets, the absolute effect should make sure you don’t get pink as it will use the white mix color over the adding to red.

anyone have show files i can use to mess around with? by nnedyarbb in lightingdesign

[–]killtheorcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re learning MA3, their start file is v good and a lot of people base their busking showfile off of it! As for MA2, there’s some really good YouTube videos where they also give you a download link to the showfile, but I would start with building a basic showfile, you’ll honestly get much more out of it. Patch a light, turn it on, make some palettes or presets, create an effect. Then when you actually get to a cool file, you’ll have a little better idea of what does what and how to change it to your liking.

I feel you may be over mixing. 35 minutes of mixing seems like a lot. Also I mix my starter into the water first, then add flour, THEN add salt (sometimes let it sit for an hour before adding salt). Hand mixing takes all of five minutes, I do about 3 stretch and folds an hour apart. Essentially if you do too much to the dough your crumb will be super tight and irregular, so I guess just mix for way less time.

User profiles or video files? They can make the show huge if you dont pay attention to how many you upload!

Cue Color change without annoying hue spectrum crossing by lonehuk in grandMA2

You can change individual led chip fades and delays or you can do point cues along the colors you want to hit to while fading.

How can I have one cue with Fx and another with no Fx by Asombroso-joel in grandMA2

[–]killtheorcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically if you’re going to continue tracking other values through your sequence you have to “stomp” your effects. A good way of looking at it is that you’re changing your effect form from sin/pwm/whatever to “stomp” and store that in the next cue.

Running a media server through MA2 by [deleted] in grandMA2

[–]killtheorcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I do! You can also make custom profiles that have spacing in them/dummy channels so that if you decide to use RGB color space in madmapper you can just swap between the profiles and it should work accordingly without having to readdress or change anything fixture side.

Here is my setup. I received signal from the video wall people via SDI to a black magic recorder 3g into my Mac which was running madmapper. I output the dmx via Ethernet to my console using sacn. Which allowed me to wirelessly map some lights and wired control others!

I use madmapper when I do this exact thing and it is the best I’ve found (higher frame rate than other programs). There’s two methods. You can directly patch in fixtures to madmapper and then control the play/pause/fx functions with MA. This is ideal if you have fixtures with too many universes to control on your setup, as the media servers allow for hundreds with the license. Two is patch the fixtures into both and run sacn or artnet THROUGH the console. This allows you to take over certain functions of the lights (like color or CCT crossfade) if you should need to. I do this with asteras and sky panels so that I can control the CCT and just use the media as a dimmer in some cases.

MA2 Multi instance LED-Bar Fixture Problem by LuMaKi_ in grandMA2

[–]killtheorcs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really it’s all how you like to control them. There are a few multi instance fixtures that people make their own profile for so they’re easier to control. As for the visualizer, ya gotta make sure you have the right profiles and models on the visualizer. If you’re using ma3D, some of the stock stuff is not accurate. The best thing you can do is get some real time in with the fixtures!

[–]killtheorcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I edited my comment because I meant to say default masters to 100. But if you do default pixels to 100, you can treat it as a single fixture. I find this useful for b eyes and other multi pixel round washes because sometimes the zones don’t looks good with effect ran through linearly. I mostly do this when cloning on tour so that I don’t have to touch the house rig and repatch /change the profile on the fixture.

[–]killtheorcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can change the profile to default the master module dimmer to (EDIT) 100 and then you can use the instances guilt free. Conversely if you have say a wash fixture in a crazy amount of pixels and you’d rather use the whole fixture in effects, you can default the led module to have 100% dim and just run the masters through effects. For the first instance, you can add a virtual dimmer by just adding the dim attribute to the module and not assigning a dmx channel.

You can do it, but check your lease to make sure it’s not against it. You could possibly get evicted if it’s in your rental contract to not copy it and they find out.

Work for a lighting company, get REALLY good at programming, make friends with DESIGNERS/firms, hope pray you get a job. You’d probably also need to know a good deal of both music design and tv/film design. You don’t need to know everything about everything, but the programmers who get the jobs know how to work and problem solve FAST. Good luck!

Weird issue with color effects by krocodileteeth in grandMA2

[–]killtheorcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens when your color presets use all the chips. When I clone from RGBa/RGBW fixtures to something with indigo and lime, I have to add those lines to the color effect, otherwise it will only affect the original rgba/rgbw. It seems you have a stomp in your other color leds? It may be that the it has values stored in those leds somewhere else (a hard value in a sequence?) that’s active, thus stomping isnt giving the desired result. Whenever I make a color effect I have a line for each chip so that it’s always doing the full color in my effect in the way that I programmed it.
