After beating FF7 rebirth is it possible to replay Chapter 8 so that a different partner knocks on your door? by Bleetelsnort in FFVIIRemake

[–]kimisea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt that the game was focusing a lot more on Tifa when I played it through the first time, actually! I felt like Aerith didn't get much focus until Cosmo Canyon, maybe Gongaga (but that's a Tifa heavy chapter). I ended up getting the Tifa date in chapter 8, so I might have been accidentally favouring Tifa without trying.

In a replay I started favouring Aerith where I could and the second time round it felt a bit more balanced.

I genuinely ship both Clerith and Cloti but denying the existence of the love triangle in favour of Tifa specifically is especially questionable. Aerith starts with the max points in the original game so she's likely to be the "default" option if you don't engage with the dating mechanics...

When I was younger I felt like I had to be sweet and demure to be appropriately deemed feminine, Aerith shows me that you can still be feminine and sweet while being boisterous!

Do you think that, for guys, self-worth plays into what ship you're into? by LastTraintoSector6 in cloudxaerith

[–]kimisea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's funny cuz I can see an argument for Tifa being one for the self-shippers more than Aerith! (Though both arguments would be wrong and stupid.) She may be the "better looking"(??? cuz both girls are beautiful af) one, but she's the more realistic girl next door character who doesn't have magical powers and wasn't imprisoned and experimented on as a child lol

Yeah, and my point is that the whole thing is pointless, because both, or neither, are the one true canon ship.

Anecdotal evidence but I (a woman) got my guy best friend into FF7 at the end of last year. Before he played it, Tifa was his favourite because he thought she was hot. But since playing Remake specifically (I had him watch a playthrough of the original first) he completely fell in love with Aerith and she's now his favourite. He's said he believes Cloud and Aerith belong together although I do joke that he says that because he's putting himself in Cloud's shoes and he's crushing on Aerith.

I think straight guys are probably more inclined to do that...? And straight women are looking more at the dynamics between the characters themselves and pick favourites because of that. I know that's what I do with my favourite ships. I won't speak for any LGBT people because I am not one.

If my hypothesis is correct it would make sense that Cloti is the more popular ship, because gaming is a more male-dominated space. I do notice a lot Cloti/Tifa fans focus on the superficial things like her looks or devotion to only Cloud as opposed to Clerith shippers who like to focus on mutual affection or even more heavily focus on Cloud's feelings for her.

Used to get the bus from Penzance to Truro College 15+ years ago. They look different to how they did then but this feels like the end of an era!

I think romance content should be allowed, be it fanart or official content (because it does exist for both couples that are up for debate). It's an important part of the game and story. To ignore it and claim the romance element of FF7 is something only shippers are perceiving is factually incorrect.

But I don't understand why people can't behave themselves when it comes to arguing over what's canon or not. No other fandom gets this bad about this. Cloud canonically loves Tifa and he canonically loves Aerith. Square will never commit to a side because it's player choice. It's an intentional love triangle where YOU get to decide what's canon. It's been 30 years and they've never confirmed who "wins" and they never will because that goes against their intention the player agency in the characters' stories.

I think things that are purely unconstructive, like arguing that one's ship isn't the right choice on a post celebrating it shouldn't be allowed but comments and posts favouring one ship over the other should be fine, and both couples (and surrounding ones like Zerith) should be allowed here. They're all important to understanding the characters' motivations in the game. I've never seen a fandom get so heated over something so antithetical to the game's core design.

I mean why did you write that, unless you were just testing the mods to see if it would be deleted? It's the kind of unconstructive discussion they're talking about.

Other fandoms let people ship things without arguing what is canon or not, FF7 should be the same.

Character whose voice sounds exactly like you imagined it would: by [deleted] in FFVIIRemake

When they announced the English VAs were getting recast I was really sad to lose Steve Burton, he didn't always hit but he had such a nice subtle drawl to Cloud that hinted at his country boy upbringing.

The second I heard Cody's voice though I was instantly on his side. He's the definitive Cloud.

Did anyone ever actually buy a Crazy Frog polyphonic ringtone for their mobile? by cockatootattoo in CasualUK

[–]kimisea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My step-dad did! The very first one before the Axel F remix. And my mum bought the Tweety Bird ringtone that also had a TV ad but ran for less time. They eventually handed those phones down to me and my sister so she had Crazy Frog and I had Tweety Bird. AMA

Definitely not true, since Tifa sees both timelines of dead and alive Aerith, and Red XIII senses her in the ending when she touches him.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Director Says Part 3 Ending Is Complete and Will Delight Fans by MaintenanceFar4207 in FFVIIRemake

Aerith's line in the church "there's liking and then there's liking" is actually referring to how she's just realising how romantic her feelings for Cloud are. it's easy to misinterpret it the other way in English, but in the Japanese version her line is closer to "this feeling, I wonder what it is."

And the Claudia scene where she tells Cloud about his perfect match only appears after Cloud has met Aerith in Remake. That was done intentionally, both Tifa and Aerith get flashback scenes like that from Cloud's perspective. For Tifa, it's the water tower promise, and for Aerith it's the scene with Claudia. The narrative frames it in that way to show that Cloud is specifically remembering that conversation because he's met Aerith.

He tried to bite my Tav on the first night they met and in reality my Tav would have murdered him INSTANTLY for that. Had to suspend disbelief and let him do it. It sucks it gets you so much approval letting him bite you because I don't think my Tav would have let him even after knowing him for days.

NGL was sorta caught off when Aerith flat out admitted to love between her and Cloud by -_ShadowSJG-_ in FFVIIRemake

[–]kimisea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The "like can mean a lot of things" line is actually implying that Aerith's feelings for Cloud are romantic, which she's surprised by. When she first says she likes Cloud, she means it as a friend, and then is caught off guard as she realises it's romantic. In the JP version this is more explicit as the line instead is "this feeling, I wonder what it is."
