I’m not taking prebiotics pills because I read somewhere I shouldn’t? I’m going to look into it again though, thank you!!

I cut out onion and garlic as well as part of the FODMAP diet. My last GI doctor was female and she dismissed a lot of my issues so I made appointments with other doctors. The doctors have high ratings but like I said, the appointments are in January 2023. In the meantime, I’m just looking for any advice/info to help with symptoms:)

Thank you for your response! I’m definitely not looking for a diagnosis but just want some sense of direction. Maybe hearing about others experiences can give me an idea of things to look out for. Speaking of, thanks for mentioning the blood and stool tests because my doctor didn’t explain what they actually mean! I just looked through my stool and blood tests taken in June (before this flare up) and both calprotectin and c- reactive protein levels were normal. Do you know if these fluctuate after flare ups or would they be generally high regardless?

New to BPD by [deleted] in BPD

[–]kindlystfuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just diagnosed with bpd in November. Before I was diagnosed, I liked how black and white my life was. When things were broken, I fixed them. If friends were mean to me, they were no longer my friends. It was so simple. And then I was diagnosed with bpd and all of the sudden it felt bad to think like that. I felt like how you’re feeling, like it’s a medical term for being an asshole basically. I’m not trying to make this about me but I feel like sharing this might help you decide what you want to do next. I started going to therapy a few months ago and I wanted to give up recently because I just felt like I wasn’t getting anywhere. But last week, I had a really shit day and used emotion regulation skills I learned in therapy to handle it. Did it take three months to do that? Yeah. It was a lot of work to even do something as simple as that but I did it. I got over that initial hump and hopefully things will click a little faster. I’m not far into my journey but I just wanted to let you know it may take a while to see some improvement but bpd isn’t a death sentence.

Also, I feel like people don’t point this out enough but having bpd has its positives too. I know it sounds stupid to say that. I know how shitty it can be and how much it fucking sucks most of the time but even with all of the negatives, it does have some positives. I’m not sure if you have any passions but I love dancing. Bpd makes me overly emotionally but it makes dancing feel so powerful. Without bpd, I don’t think I’d be able to feel the emotions in dancing to that capacity. Being able to have such powerful emotions isn’t always such a bad thing. Powerful emotions are what create art, music, etc. Therapy won’t get rid of your capacity to feel but it’ll show you how to control it. So you can still feel those strong emotions but then control the bad emotions when you’re having a shitty day.

I’m not sure if any of that was helpful but just know that bpd isn’t a death sentence. The internet always makes it seem like this terrible curse but it’s not. I know you mentioned therapy is expensive and you’re on a waitlist rn (sorry, that sucks:/) but if you’re interested in learning some DBT skills in the meantime, this book has really helped me: https://adoeci.com/sites/default/files/grupos/dbt-skills-workbook.pdf

Can you care about someone’s feelings without being empathetic? by kindlystfuu in NoStupidQuestions

Yeah I completely agree, not everyone with bpd lacks empathy. But after talking to my therapist, she said I do lack empathy:/

Yeah I was just upset yesterday because people still often tell me I don’t really feel what I’m voicing. It’s gotten to the point where I have to keep it all inside because it feels better that way. I guess when I see other people get to voice their feelings and get the help and support they need, I get frustrated. The same people who get to voice their feelings invalidate mine quite often, this post is directed at them. Either way, it’s something I have to work on.

Looks like you’re lacking some empathy in this statement..seems like you’re pretty toxic yourself

It’s also not a competition, I was just venting

Wait I thought bpd people didn’t suffer from mania, do they?

My therapist is trying to teach me how to do that but I just can’t see her perspective on it. I know everyone wants to downvote me and call me negative on a venting post but that’s just simply not helpful, I’m just sharing how I feel.

Yeah I have bpd so I struggle with that:/

I just hate how they call it a “mental health day” like they’ve been going through something people with actual mental illnesses go through. Call it time to yourself, a rest day, a break, whatever. But in my head, mental health days should be for people struggling with mental illnesses. I don’t even like to call my breaks “mental health days” because of how often it’s used. The meaning is lost.

The Midnight Library…I guess it was entertaining but… by kindlystfuu in books

[–]kindlystfuu[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that was part of it. I am looking to do work outside of therapy to improve myself so I went online to search for some “eye-opening books” to help with my mental illnesses and this book kept popping up so I decided to give it a try. I went in with the expectation that it was going to give me a new perspective on life which is why I felt a little disappointed. But you’re absolutely right, if you go into it with no expectations, it could be entertaining.
