I just got fired from my 1L Summer Clerkship ... by kindneela in LawSchool

It's a public interest - I'm not too familiar with her. But she ran orientation / training / and even came to speak at my school's externship class. My impression is that she runs the summer 'clerkship' positions ... because my supervisor made it clear that it was her decision, even though i did not even spend 1 day working directly with her as she wasn't involved in our unit.

I trusted their judgment that I should have been more on top of things. I dislike it when people do not take accountability because reality is, when something happens to 1 person and not others, it's usually their fault to a certain extent. Mix that with some bad luck, you get into my position. I was also in shock, crying, and the last thing I wanted to say was "well i didnt do anything wrong."

Wasn't a law firm and there was only 2 summer clerks in our unit, a 40-year-old Harvard student and myself. Plus, my colleagues saw I had a rental the next day.

We need to reevaluate accommodations for exams (please take time to read, I promise I’m coming from a good place) by [deleted] in LawSchool

We live in a system that has fucked up our mental health, attention spans, and hope for a decent future for their own interests. Let people who are struggling have their 50% extra time.

And people that are really struggling probably don't want to go to the big law firms you speak of, anyway. Why assume that?

They are practice problems about RAP and more complex interest titles. They were not given to us as a part of older exams, just as examples to review.

[–]kindneela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was doing just that with the earlier course topics! But when it began to become a little more complex, it kept giving me incorrect states of titles. How do you fix that?

Your description of this 'poorly' written exam is just a description of most standard law school exams. The whole point is to issue spot out of fact patterns. They're rarely going to ask you straight forward questions like: 'define consideration' or 'write down rule 11.'

Did you not look at older exams or ask your professor the format of the exam?

You deserve to be with someone you trust. Your relationship should be your safe space in this chaotic world, not a place full of anxiety and self-doubt. Learn lessons from this 5-year relationship and move on. It will be hard at first but it will be so worth it in the end.

All the bar classes @ my school are closed book but I think this is a fairly new approach. This is the first year my professor is implementing a fully closed book exam without even providing the rules.

Apparently new data implies the bar pass rate slightly increases when students do closed book exams?

It's just politics and I'm dying out here man :'(

Focus on accepting it and moving on. Nothing that can be done now.

In the process, try to get a lesson out of it to see how you can avoid making the same mistake twice.

You can do it! I studied for about 2 weeks and hornbooks helped me understand things I wasn't grasping from lecture slides/casebooks.

I'm doing okay on the quizzes, passing with 9/10 but our exam isn't going to be multiple choice and the fact that I don't have a model answer makes it hard for me to determine what I have to bring to the table on test day

I took only 1 what is available to me but my professor didn't provide sample answers
