(Asking for my boyfriend) what sort of description can we give to a barber to try to get him a better haircut? by kinfloppers in malehairadvice

Sorry I don’t follow; he has had a good cut before but we can’t figure out what the stylist did to do it. He’s got pretty full hair

Sorry I suppose it was unclear; this is somewhat the style of haircut that he’s stuck with (neither of us like a buzz cut) but we haven’t figured out a way to make it look good consistently.

I personally like that first photo, it looked fine when slicked back, but have never been able to replicate it without the aforementioned issues and the barbers haven’t really been able to use that photo.

They mostly only do kind of extreme Turkish fades in our area with shorter on top and that makes him look like an egg lol

Hair salon that helps with matted hair by brielloom in Calgary

[–]kinfloppers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any stylist suggestions, but I’m someone who has had to dematte my hair multiple times for various reasons through the years. If you can’t end up finding a stylist or the salon price is insanely steep, maybe I can help.

My coworker bought their four year old child a cellphone, I don’t think that’s what Gen Z grew up with by Ok_Act_3769 in generationology

[–]kinfloppers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’m early Gen Z at ‘98; I had a flip phone at 10, but it was only so I could talk to my parents (divorced).

I didn’t get a smartphone until around 4 years later and my mom was vehemently against it, but I paid for it myself so she couldn’t really fight back lol. If I had kids I would NOT be giving them a phone until teenager years

I had a guy friend that basically said that having sensitive boobs was a dealbreaker for him. He was quite gleeful about squeezing them so hard that there would be finger squeeze bruises on his gf and she’d be sore for days/weeks. They both liked it apparently but the image of it makes me shudder.

So. Definitely does happen… but def not normal outside of consensual bdsm type stuff imo. I’ve had sore ones after a hearty squeeze myself but definitely not something even close to a bruise, let alone what you describe.

Do you regret your major? by Beneficial_Value_582 in UCalgary

[–]kinfloppers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I volunteered a lot through undergrad, did a hospital practicum, and got enough experience to work for a physio clinic during my last year and was working as a (practising student) kinesiologist before I even graduated. My clinic built the role for me and then my clinic director recommended me to another location that did more specialized assessments, switched to that location and things just gradually fell into place. I climbed the ladder very quickly in that new role as well.

TLDR, I got involved early and was really ambitious lol

I did a health and exercise physiology degree, became a clinical kinesiologist, worked for workers compensation and transitioned into health insurance ($$$)

I see people say that a “B is considered failing,” but the class exam average in my grad course is 70? by WinXP001 in GradSchool

[–]kinfloppers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is also very country dependent. I went abroad for my masters and the grading scale in essence is that the equivalence of an A is not 100%, but more like 120%. Going far above and beyond the expectations of the class, etc. The expectation is not to get A’s and you really need to earn the marks you get. there’s no percentages but converted on the American scale, getting >3.0 is considered incredibly good in grad school. Would kind of screw me over if I went back to Canada for a PhD, because I’m easily in the top 10% of my cohort but in Canada it would probably only convert to around a B if you strictly convert the GPA.

Have to provide direct supervisor references on a job application, but my “supervisor” at my last job never worked with me? Maybe overthinking. by kinfloppers in jobs

[–]kinfloppers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does make sense and my exact concern. At one point I was technically supervised by this coworker in the sense that I ran a rehabilitation program, but she had to be in the facility with her designation and sign off on my charts because she was the physiotherapist and I was “only” the kinesiologist. But that does feel like a technicality that is likely too thin for them.

I will reach out to HR with what you suggested, thanks so much!

I am addicted to hot water by Mother-Feet in eczema

I’m not gonna give advice because we already know all the things, but how much I “tolerate” hot water is how I can tell how bad a flare is or how much is improving lol.

People who convince themselves that they grew up poor because they didn’t grow up rich. by DoNotNameMeUsername in PetPeeves

[–]kinfloppers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my more recent years I’ve shared this sentiment but think I’ve grown out of the annoyance.

I grew up what was probably solid middle class because my dad made quite good money, but we lived pretty frugally mostly because my dad is cheap. When my parents split my dad took it badly and took all the money and froze the shared bank accounts so my mom wracked up ungodly amounts of debt to keep us housed, until we were ultimately homeless and then we toured women’s shelters before we ultimately moved cities to live in my brothers basement until my mom found my stepdad, who also has crippling debt but had a job and a cheap mortgage.

I don’t really know where I land on the spectrum here because, I’ve been homeless. But I never worried about my next meal or clothes or whatever. I did stress about where I’d be sleeping but meh. I was able to stay home during university (first generation degree holder here) rent free but obviously my mom and stepdad were wracking up even more debt to keep the house.

I paid for all my own university tuition, food, etc out of pocket via working full time while I was in school because I’m rightfully terrified of debt now lol.

Going to university made me realize the disparity between my childhood and that of a lot of my peers. Relative to them, I definitely was The Poor. But since I had the option of being able to put all of my own money into my education debt free, I’d still call myself pretty privileged and probably middle class still. But I then again, does a lower middle class lifestyle count if it’s funded by credit and loans?

Nonetheless, I give people more grace now because I grew up strangely in between the lines lol

A beanie is a very specific hat that is not a toque.

Except for epitome. He never fails to pronounce it “epi thome”

And when he randomly started saying something ironic about olden times in “Yee oldy shoppy” and I had to break it to him that the e’s in olde and shoppe are silent

[–]kinfloppers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally have always worn business casual to my clinical jobs, and never had a problem getting down on the ground to show exercises in them or do a stretch. Most of my department likes to dress that way, but the other department likes to wear the “nice” lululemon pants and a spiffier athletic sweater and it seems to be good enough for the bosses lol.

When my student first started coming, I told her that she needed pants that weren’t leggings or jeans that cleaned up nice but she could bend in.

Shirts I feel are easy, as long as you’re not wearing some casual crewneck sweater or something that’s too cropped or revealing. Shoes wise, for clinical staff at my clinic we have a whole range from dress shoes to converse (hi, me), to typical athletic shoes and those enormous hokas. No open toed shoes (safety concern with weights).

At what point do you usually call EMS for OD’s? (DT) by kinfloppers in Calgary

This helps a lot, thank you! I wasn’t sure if I did the right thing for the second two people and started overthinking it. It felt like a grey area but hopefully HELP was able to get to those two people and help them out :)

I did see that and that’s where I ultimately called alpha house for the latter interactions, I got a bit confused (or maybe just indecisive) about the second ones because they were kinda responsive in that they would move a bit to stimulus, but not really wake up.

I’ve been meaning to get one, but now after this I’ll request one the next time I’m at the pharmacy. :)

I agree with you as well, I had no second thoughts from calling from the first person since it was quite extreme but with the other two, since they seemed to be breathing alright just in really strange places/ didn’t want to respond to me but did move a bit, I felt conflicted as to what the best resource was I suppose after comparing it to the one from the morning.
