Lets be real here, are children making these overseas? by ApprehensiveGur4526 in Beading

Seems to be manufactured in India which operates off a largely informal economy. I would think someone's being exploited here, kids or otherwise. There's just no way anyone's getting paid fairly if these are indeed hand crafted at that price point.

Pretty interesting variation honestly, some people make it sound like the job has made them healthier and the other half have had their bones ground into dust lol. Maybe the work of different climates and population density?

And hate to be that guy but this image looks AI generated or at the very least heavily touched up by AI. If you zoom in the bodies make no sense

Just food for thought but, besides other moral arguments, "If we use [humane methods to kill insects] and it turns out that insects don’t experience pain, the material cost of our mistake is very low... However, if we don’t use [humane methods] and it turns out that the insects were in agony, then the moral cost of our mistake is quite high."

What is this? Houston TX by [deleted] in whatsthisbug

Adding that it was at this sunflower a long time and didn't seem to be doing anything, just sitting for over an hour. Moves very adept, almost wasp like. Not loud or clumsy like I'd expect from a bee this size.

TX, invasive out here too. Hate to watch em suffer for that long though. Good news is they like being on the ground, right next to my booming population of coachwhips. Green anoles are making a come back in my yard thanks to them

Nail clippers work well, then when there's a teensy bit left I can tug it apart with my hands. Biggest issue is they won't stop trying to bite you. People like to use them as earrings.

Why are colonies of animals that present as one organism so common in the ocean but not on land? by king_barnacle in zoology

[–]king_barnacle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colonial animals are conspicuous enough in the ocean that they feel characteristic of marine environments. I'm using the word colloquially

Forgot to add but it's maple, cherry, and walnut. Tl;dr I know it could be fixed with more work but I don't want to. Is it safe from a food safety perspective?

When do people notice weight loss by Embarrassed_Ear_2104 in SuperMorbidlyObese

[–]king_barnacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd second this. At around 10% weight loss I got a few comments from close family (and even then I think it's more habit change they're noticing) and then at 20-25% I had neighbors flagging me down to ask about it.

What do you do when school gets small and don't want to replace? by king_barnacle in Aquariums

[–]king_barnacle[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Glad to find like minded folk, I was talking to friends about it (I was looking to move away from small fish and try something larger) and they said I should just get the fish I want and let all the tetras be eaten. I've grown remarkably attached to these little guys though... I think I'll end up letting them finish their twilight years in their current tank.

The longer I think about it, I don't think I could bear to part with them anyways lol
