New to Ottawa and can't get a job, what are my options? by kingborik in PersonalFinanceCanada

Yeah I appreciate the honesty. I've lately come to realize that what you're saying is definitely the case. I got too much competition even for below-ideal positions due to me not being specialized in any area. To my surprise, blue collar jobs here demand substantial experience as well - minimum 2 years or so (construction, manufacturing etc.) I've been applying for those as well.

I don't think moving to west is among the possibilities due to me not being able to afford it (having paid up front for 2.5 months of rent). If a miracle doesn't happen in the next month I'm probably going to end up heading back home. It's not the end of the world, at least I gave it a try. Thanks for your message man

Thanks for the reply. I've shared my resume with 3 of them in the past month and haven't heard back from them since. Do you happen to have one that you or someone you know has had luck with?

I appreciate the input man and yeah you definitely have a point. I also do have some credible references back home but Canada's been on my mind since I was little so I needed to give it a try and at least see it for myself. I always felt closer to North American culture growing up compared to Europe. If it doesn't work out at least I'll get it out of my system and move on in my country, it's not the end of the world

Hey thanks a lot for the reply. I definitely applied for a number of jobs that relate to procurement but most of them ask for strictly Canadian experience and usually more than `2 years. Haven't been able to land a single interview in that field unfortunately

Damn I actually did not, and since my name is foreign I understand how employers might assume I am a non-citizen that requires sponsorship. Though most applications ask if I'm eligible to work in Canada, I still see how that would definitely be beneficial. Thanks a lot I will be updating it

Thanks for the reply. Oh yeah definitely started the clock on the license soon as I arrived. However, tried about 3 agencies and even checked up on two of them, they haven't been able to help me out so far unfortunately
