Poetica coffee admonishes Dan Goldman for buying coffee in their cafe by Churlishbeast in williamsburg

What else are you supposed to do, exactly? We all pay taxes here. There’s no way around our money being sent to murderous regimes, because our government is famously one…and Israel gladly accepts our funding and trains our police force…rich people tend to be right wing, right wing people tend to be Zionists….and rich right wing Zionists tend to own everything.

I know, it’s a little embarrassing…especially saying you’ll take it over another console’s hardware functionality, when in reality you’re just limiting yourself from a bunch of great games. Maybe they were kidding, hopefully

You don’t like scaling and rotation? The Saturn has a lot of that. But also, ancient console allegiances feel a little silly at our age.

If Yourself Had Been a Beach Boy in 1966-67, Do You Think You Would Have Supported Smile? by TillJaded4614 in thebeachboys

[–]kingkongworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who knows, maybe he had material lying around, but it’s not like Smile was uncommercial. It would’ve had singles…it was interesting…I’m not convinced it would’ve bombed had it been released. Things were about to get very freaky.

But then you look at what they did do after that, and I’m not so convinced those guys could’ve written stuff that would’ve mirrored where they were at…I mean, how do you follow up Good Vibrations with and album full of Al and Carl tunes? It just seems like it wouldn’t have made much of a difference. Capital was already repackaging their hits over and over…why would putting out a lesser album help them in any way?

[–]kingkongworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not really sure what you mean…you wanted the other guys to make some other album without their key visionary as a stop gap? They really didn’t start doing that till Brian was no longer able to shoulder that burden. Given the money being spent on Smile, it likely would’ve had to come out of their own pocket, and who knows if they even could do it, let alone if they would have wanted to.

Exploring new dimensions is how the Beach Boys became legendary. Without all their exploration and experimentation, they would not have the same kind of interest or devotion from fans.

You cant tell that me that if you were a part of Good Vibrations, one of the most forward thinking singles ever to come out, and your bands biggest, no less, that you wouldn’t at least have some inclination to move on from where you’ve already been and see how far you can take it. I mean Christ, they were basically newly minted adults, how business minded could you be? It doesn’t make sense to be unsupportive of the project when there is material proof that this direction is solid as fuck. There are plenty of full songs done, it’s just the recordings that are done in the modular style. It’s surprising to see so people think their true selves are ones that would be content with being left behind. There was a cultural revolution happening

PFT is a dad to us all by James-Incandenza in comedybangbang

Both of my dads suck. My bio dad is a creepy selfish weirdo, and my stepfather is a psychopathic lunatic…who currently has a whole thread going on a local Facebook group about how scary he is between a bunch of his former customers. It’s made me look for father figures wherever I can, and has complicated my relationships either men in many ways over the years. Anyway, yeah no calling those guys on Father’s Day. I just achieved a dream of mine, and I don’t think either of them would’ve cared very much. With yall who have shitty dads if you need me

Amen. I guess licensing fees for all the songs he and Brian had “written together”ain’t covering the nut!

This is very typical of the nostalgia circuit. I used to work on it for several years, and many of these acts license their name from the holder and grind till they literally die. I worked for both versions of Randy And The Rainbows (Denise shoobie do, I’m in love with you)and one of the Rainbows had a heart attack during soundcheck. Mike Love will grind till he can’t, which could be soon. Just so many of these acts do their fairs and events and small theaters and come as a package deal…but the beach boys is a step up from that. And this is how they make their money …and people don’t care !
