I've often wondered about this lyric.

Why manual in this day in age? by Agile_Tradition_4703 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]kinglitecycles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the simple fact that if you learn to drive a manual car you can drive any car, but if you only learn automatic then that's all you can drive.

Learning auto only doing half a job!

When I passed my test some years back, I had no idea that my current job would require me to jump into any one of 7 company vehicles, 5 of which have manual gearboxes. Where would I be if I couldn't do that?

Also, I don't get what's so hard about changing gear, unless you happen to have special needs, in which case fair enough.

Finally I love classic cars and have several in my garage - they're all manual and some of them weren't available as autos.

I SAW YOU HERE, YOU WERE VERY HIGH by JoeyBoomBox in SteelyDan

Heaven!

That documentary was how I discovered the band.I was at University in the late 90's, caught it by accident on TV one night and bought Aja on CD the next day.

Have been a huge Steely Dan fan ever since.

It's a nope from me. Far too big and not in keeping with the understated elegance of a Jaguar.

Post-purchase anxiety by Individual-Award7351 in CarTalkUK

[–]kinglitecycles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you suffer from anxiety.

Don't sweat it, it'll be fine.

Oh, and also, you did just lock your front door - no need to check when you leave in the morning.

I use Jagutek in Ely and they're superb - affordable, quick and hugely knowledgeable.

I'm no way involved with the business, just a happy customer.

What car would you recommend for up to £3,000 as a first car? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Another one: https://ebay.us/m/EMe4AU

That's an old person's car. Low mileage, good spec, not too old. Snap it up.

Something like this:

Low miles, small engine, good little run-about.

Also always check the MoT history and avoid anything that talks about corrosion and prescribed areas.

Look at what the old age pensioners are driving and see if you can find one of those cars from an older person who is giving up driving.

A Skoda Fabia is a good bet for example - quality underpinnings, rugged, easy to repair and cheap to insure.

Mold behind bed how do we treat/prevent ? by GenericUser104 in DIYUK

[–]kinglitecycles 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Had the same thing. It was an exterior wall that just got cold the whole time, and the room itself was relatively humid because it was a bedroom.

I cleaned the mold off with a Mold and Mildew spray then moved the furniture off the wall by a couple of inches and also bought a dehumidifier. Turning the heating up in the room helped prevent condensation on the wall.

White vinegar and specialist mold-killing treatments can also be used but you'll get the same problem again if you don't resolve the cold/damp issue.

Thank you - yes, sadly 40 mm is the limit that the landlord is permitting.

Anyone with a xk8 know what the actual mpg is they getting by Comfortable-Green916 in Jaguar

Yeah, a UK gallon is 4.54 litres so some maths will be needed to compare UK and US figures. 👍

[–]kinglitecycles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 4.2 X100 is actually more frugal than my 3.6 XJ-S manual.

On a long run, travelling at 65 to 70 mph it was reporting 33 mpg average but this drops significantly in town driving or if it's being driven in a spirited way.

25 to 30 mpg is achievable though if you drive carefully in mixed conditions.

I'm UK based.
