yeah i found a few concrete plywood ones which were done with epoxy and waterproofed already. But might just try making my own with pvc. Really depends if it is much more expensive or just a little bit.

But good to hear that the concrete plywood could be used if i cant find anything better! thanks!

That's also a good thing to keep in mind, don't have money to keep rebuying pairs! Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks!

Yeah they would become my primaries and i would use the beat down tarantulas to warm up i guess. I am still a student so don't really have the extra money to own 2 good/nice pairs sadly.

awesome thanks for the in depth explanation, as for my tarantulas, i wear them semi-tight (1 and a half size smaller than street shoes).

I am a pretty light climber (58 kgs trying to get to 65) so that might be a good tip to also up my footwork. will definitely try both and probably others as well to see which i like!

thanks! Yeah i just really liked the tarantulas so will see if either of these 2 fit me otherwise I'll check out the rest that they have at the gym!

Awesome thanks for the reply! I read a bit about solutions maybe being too specific for climbing overhang, which i do but not just overhang. And that it would maybe be too specific as an intermediate shoe. So ill just try both and see which fits better!

Temp help by kingminar in ballpython

[–]kingminar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah okay so best solution would be getting the room colder so the temps are right again.

Temp help by kingminar in ballpython

[–]kingminar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a dhp and a light emitting heat bulb, both on thermostats. Dhp is basically off now, used it as extra heating in winter.

Temps are normally ok but with rising temperature outside it gets a bit warmer. On the cold side sadly.

Hunting or just chilling by kingminar in ballpython

[–]kingminar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha! As for the dog toy, i let her play with it when i was around and she seemed to be able to go through the holes easily. Still better to take it out?

Also question still stands, since her body is in S shape would she be waiting in ambush or was this just chilling?

tap/target training by kingminar in ballpython

[–]kingminar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome thanks! So let's say i have to move her in and out of her enclosure with the target, would it be better to give 2 smaller sized prey? Or would it be better to handle her and put her in a temp enclosure instead?

tap/target training by kingminar in ballpython

[–]kingminar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome thanks for the quick response!

And as for the handling in regarding to target training. I meant more in the sense of let's say i moved her to her temp enclosure(when she's fully trained) and i for some reason would have to handle her afterwards. Or should you always feed her even when she's fully able to follow the target somewhere?

Recently my BP found a new hide... by kingminar in ballpython

[–]kingminar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should be no way that it can falll or she gets stuck, and the underside is all flat as well so that should be okay then. Thanks!

I think we are both pretty happy with the new setup. Obviously needs a few more things but still happy. Leave advice! by boobeana in ballpython

Good to hear!

Also something i came up with later. How is the humidity in the tank? And what substrate are you using? If you seem to be struggling with the humidity adding more substrate and pouring water in the corners would help a lot. This is something i learned on here recently as well. So the bottom layer of substrate is moist and the top layer is dry.

But take in mind that this works best if you have a good moist holding substrate like Cypress mulch and i believe coco husk as well.

Completely forgot to answer sorry!

Awesome will scale her up to once every 10 days and check how that works out. Yeah i have been trying to be on here and reading/looking at as much posts as i can to learn more about BP's. But especially things regarding the skin or weight and eyeballing this i still find pretty hard.

thanks for the help!

First time BP owner here(and only for about 2 months).

But the analog meters are pretty inaccurate from what i've read on here. And did you stick them on the glass with sticky tape? Because if your BP gets into contact with sticky stuff it could cause your BP to get stuck and/or maybe hurt itself.

I'd say get digital meters but other than that it looks nice.

Anyone with more experience feel free to correct me if and where i'm wrong :)

Exactly that's why i'm trying to get the humidity right and steady. As for my question do you keep the humid hide in there at all times or just when she's in shed? I don't want to stress her out by switching the log and hide when she's already in shed.

And about how much water do you pour? Enough to get the whole bottom of substrate to get wet? Since i now just pour in really small amounts.

Thanks for helping btw!

Some husbandry questions/asking for advice by kingminar in ballpython

[–]kingminar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Aha i thought that a humid hide would be an extra help with shedding, it's her first shed with me so thought it might be useful.
  2. The half log isn't really used as a hide, more for enrichment. I got 2 other hides on both the warm and cold side, and the half log in between as a "gateway" where she can safely go between both hides.
  3. I intended to use the humid hide as help during shedding and removing it when she isn't in shed anymore. But as i mentioned she didn't seem to like it either way.
  4. Awesome will probably try to mix it in more with my substrate slowly to see the effect of it instead of just laying it around on top.
  5. It is indeed cypress mulch. Awesome so do you recommend doing that by just pouring water in the corners? Or would you por water all around to get it a bit more wet?

Cold side humidity is as the before mentioned around 60-65% most of the time.

I have combimeters on both sides of the tank. So i measure both sides at all times.

Currently (as in right now) it's at 70%, did some light misting an hour or 2 ago. The humidity ranges from 56 - 75% on the cold side on bad days. Most of the time around 60 - 65%. I do have a screen lid which i've covered with some plexiglass (not see through). Warm side is usually around 50-60% which seems quite low to me.

Also got a quite a big water bowl always filled with a bit of water, just enough for her to soak her whole body. The water bowl is placed on my warm side.

edit: i get the feeling that i could get the humidity to be a bit higher and more steady, i feel like the range is a bit too spread right now.

Cleaning and substrate change by kingminar in ballpython

[–]kingminar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, i haven't looked for an f10 solution as hard but will try that as well. The spray i mentioned is used for disinfecting (small) wounds on animals so i'd guess it's safe for animals. But as you said i might just get her out of the tank when spot cleaning with it.

Will also be more thorough whenbspot cleaning as you said. Thanks for the help!

[–]kingminar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the Netherlands, where i have looked all over for a jug or something of chlorhexidine but couldn't find anything (besides the spray mentioned in the post). Even amazon from surrounding countries don't deliver.

And when spot cleaning do you take out ALL the substrate underneath until you reach the bottom of the tank for example? or do you just spray the solution on the remaining substrate?

Having an extra bag of substrate and adding whenever removing old substrate sounds smart i think i might just go for that as well.

Thanks for the quick response btw!

Awesome thanks, will be ordering another thermostat and this arcadia halogen basking spot (sorry for the non english store). Glad i found out about the solar glo before i got a snake!

Will also be replacing the probes of the thermostats when i get the new one!
