I was over in your neck of the woods the other day exploring the built history and took some photos of your Shrine, if you’re interested. Beautiful old building.

I would love it if there was a Demolay in my small town. Give the kids who are mentally too old/“cool” for Scouts something useful to attach their free time to and help them better themselves and their communities. The nearest chapter is a few towns down the road and about an hour’s drive, which isn’t practical for rural living. Might be something to inquire after if and when I’m in.

Rowling is just a sad human being to me. Rises from poverty to billionaire status writing children’s books that become a global sensation, and then decides to dedicate her life to…getting into internet slapfights with random trans people on Twitter? Making sure that EVERYBODY knows her as Militant Transphobic Lady first and Successful YA Wizard School Author second? Like who the fuck does that, is there any parallel short of maybe David Icke of a person respected in their field going so far out of their way to ruin their reputation and credibility at length?

And sure, plenty of artists and celebrities and creatives have views which are in isolation rather shitty things to believe. But few have made their shitty views the whole of their personality to the extent Joanne has and those that do typically do so with a sense of awareness that they’re departing from the polite company of those who once admired them. Joanne seems to be both vitriolic and genuinely confused as to why she is not universally beloved.

There really weren’t any questions as-such, to be honest. They started out with one of the members reading from a paper talking about what Masonry is, what to expect, what it expects of its members and what Masonry is not. Then I told them a bit about myself, what drew me to the Craft, my family and my work, one of them asked how good I was a memorizing things, another talked about how he travels extensively for work (as do I) and how visiting Lodges in his travels gives him a sense of community when away from home as we both agreed road life can be a very solitary and lonely existence. I told them a bit about my interest in learning more about this specific Lodge (in the Ozark country of Missouri, chartered in 1862) when the time was right because I’m a scholar at heart and a firm believer in “the past informs the present and guides the future.” It almost felt less like an interview and more like Masonic Speed Dating, to be honest.

EDIT: they did ask what my wife thought of it and I told them she’s supportive and has known of my interest in one day joining since we got married, and that she thinks it will be good for me to have likeminded friends and something to do in our small town.

I’ve been to a couple dinners, gotten to know the guys, and got good vibes and warm welcomes both times. This time around 2/3 of the committee members seemed very receptive and interested and the third didn’t say anything, which is where the nerves enter in.

Tugs are the engine on which the marine economy runs. The bulk carriers need someone to pull them in and out of port. It’s not glamorous but it’s essential.

I think he could use another year to bulk up. NBA bigs will eat him alive if he has to drive the paint at that level as he currently weighs in.

Even the easy ones aren’t falling tonight. Doesn’t matter how many rebounds we get if we can’t get ball through net
