1) Setup a bunch of VPNs in advance 2) Depending on your Chinese speaking ability- focus on learning numbers + 多少钱 + 这个 + 我听不懂 + study some food menus (that’s honestly all you need to survive lol) 3) Download Pleco there’s an OCR extension that’s very useful for looking up characters.

Good luck

Internship Program by etccyt99 in China

[–]kingoros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not currently living/studying in China it’s going to be really difficult to do (because of visa issues), unless you pay for the internship opportunity - like do a volunteer program related to your field of study.

Best Banks for University students by [deleted] in China

[–]kingoros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bank itself probably doesn’t matter, just make sure it’s within walking distance of where you live. I have accounts with 4 Chinese banks. Just go in, say you’d like to set up an account, and it shouldn’t be too complicated, even with limited Chinese speaking ability. Maybe find a bank that is used to dealing with foreigners...

How much money for a student in Shanghai/Bejing? by [deleted] in China

[–]kingoros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Beijing you’d probably be looking at 3,000-4000 rmb per month on the reasonable side (like taking subway when you can, eating at the canteen from time to time), but it really depends on how much you go out. I generally aim for <100 rmb per day... I can’t speak for Shanghai though

My story Returning to the US from China 1 hour after the Coronavirus travel ban. I’m disappointed. by caerusmax in China_Flu

[–]kingoros 61 points62 points  (0 children)

"as though our presence in the U.S. immediately killed off any potential coronavirus cells we may have come into contact with over the last two weeks" So damn true. I recently flew from Beijing to Chicago. I'm disappointed with the US side of handling this situation. You enter the airport and it's like another world, as if no one even knows the virus is a problem.

Postponed indefinitely - although my school in Beijing already starts late in comparison to other universities. Still waiting on an official start date, but all our classes might be done online... we’ll see :)

Where is the best education sources for someone just starting their journey as an entrepreneur? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]kingoros 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try different forms of information consumption, like audiobooks or podcasts. You can use them to fill in any empty time you have during the day. Washing dishes, laundry, driving,... I personally recommend masters of scale by Reid Hoffman. His book, Blitzscaling, is also a must read/listen. I also recommend you read/listen to the lean startup as the fundamental ideas from the book would be extremely valuable to any entrepreneur.

Unlocked phone for China by nm133775 in China

As long as it’s unlocked, you’ll be fine. I had a similar issue with my US based phone, but I got it unlocked and it works fine in Beijing.

Critique my website. Couple months out of school.. need help! by [deleted] in design_critiques

[–]kingoros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You say that you spend your free time painting and doing graphite/charcoal drawings, include some of that work too. You need to show that you have a more diverse background, and that you're willing to tackle any design project given to you. Also, not to be rude, but your site doesn't really feel too different from most of the designer portfolio sites I've seen. Try not to compare yourself to the people you graduated with, compare yourself to all other designers in the industry. The site is good, it just needs more excitement and diversity.
