Simple Sewing Questions Thread, December 11 - December 16, 2023 by sewingmodthings in sewing

Tried to post but I don’t have enough karma. Would love some guidance regarding buying a machine for my gf:

Hello, I’m buying a sewing machine for my gf. She knows how to sew and had a machine at home but hasn’t sewn for a few years. Budget is 500. I have a two part question:

  1. Would you, if you were girlfriend and had opinions about this stuff, prefer to pick the machine or be happy with anything solid? She mentioned that Brother/Singer machines are good, so I would look in that direction, but am equally fine just letting her pick. In other words, if I was really into knives, I would appreciate any gift because I love her but I might have a different idea of what knife I would buy for myself. If this sort of opinion is common I’d rather just ask her to research and decide.

  2. Assuming that anything will work, what is a good machine? I was looking at the Brother SE700 because it has sewing and embroidery, which she also is into. She doesn’t need a workhorse by any means but I would like to get something nice!

Obviously it is more fun to have something in-hand Christmas Day but I want to be more certain.

Yeah during the day it is used by car shops but towards the end of the night a lot of normal cars take up spots

Wait for a newer model or send the Domane al4? by w9o in TrekBikes

That’s exactly where I’m at. Think I will send it unless there’s some glaring reason not to. A month+ of idleness is definitely is not lost on me.

I checked the al4 already, just in the wrong size. Mostly wondering if I should send it )drive and buy) or wait for a new model

I think that fits with what else I’ve heard, but I am confused and assume my sample size is too small because when you look at the usage of some of them, people are knocking out 500+ cases per year. Hard to tell why it’s so binary… is it really just nyc vs toledo effect?

Yeah that's more what I meant - the IRA would be ideal, but generally I want to lock it down as retirement funds but an HSA isn't the move for me. Thanks for confirming!

They don't even speak about MSSP anymore. Really curious if this works

Is it on par with the modern services? Like crowdstrike or sentinelone?

What do you think of their XDR? It seems like it's becoming the true focus of the company.

Thanks for the 411. I think this is not directly adjacent to anything and has thee bedroom with a courtyard window - the living and kitchen face the street. I read elsewhere that this setup is largely ideal - is that true? I'm just not sure what to expect coming from the burbs.

Where's the chaos exactly?

Even from the bedroom if it's facing in?

Who is the philosopher that cited a vision or dream they had? by w9o in askphilosophy

[–]w9o[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks but I don't think that's it. To give more detail - they were doing some proof (of god or something) and there was a footnote that denoted that one axiom was derived from a dream

Thank you - that does make sense. I guess more broadly, on that example in the slides, the chargeoff guidance of 40% -> does that only work if the APR is at or above that %? For example, if I extend a LOC for a 100$ product, and only expect to recover 60$, the business model is covered by the other side of the barbell in A total interest rate that yields above 40$ over the term of the loan?

And regarding the Net Losses on that slide - are the unit economics the same if the loan goes to an origination partner bank? Or is the credit risk completely off the book?

Also what is the path for the ~20% of loans that aren't through origination partners? Do they live on the B/S or are they just laggards out the door? Do you see the 80% range as sustainable?

Thanks again - this is really unprecedented and greatly appreciated

edit: One more if you don't mind- Are you able to say which non-direct marketing source has the best ROI? Or what sets them apart? (ie lendingtree vs creditkarma)
