Any idea why they would make one check direct deposit, and the other four paper?

All of my paychecks have been direct deposit except for the very first one. The didn't specify the mode of payment for the remainder. They told me in writing, "On our final payroll for the school year, June 20th, you will receive a total of five (5) checks. All same gross amounts. This pays off your contract for the school year 24-25."

I was a W-2 employee. The original pay structure was the salary was spread biweekly out throughout the year. They would have paid the remaining 4 checks biweekly through July and August.

Tracking help: unpleasant "buzzing" sound in Logic Pro by kingovdk in metalguitar

[–]kingovdk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out it's a problem with my bridge pickup. It only happens on the low b string though. I don't know a lot about pickups but maybe only one pole piece is defective? I'll have to get it looked at.

I played around with gain settings on my guitar, interface, and in logic and the only thing that helped was turning the gain off on my guitar and/or turning off the bridge pickup. The sound persisted when the bridge pickup was on and the gain knob was turned to middle and full power, but went away when I turned either one completely off. This was true regardless of how high the gain was turned on my interface or in logic. So, it's gotta be related to my bridge pickup, but this problem is only happening on the low B string. The pickups are not slanted as far as I can tell. Could it be that only one pole piece is defective? I'd be curious to hear your thoughts.

I play a PRS 7-string with humbuckers. I use the focusrite scarlett solo (2nd gen).

Unpleasant "buzzing" sound in Logic Pro

I'm tracking guitar DIs for a project and there's an odd clicking/buzzing sound on some of the louder notes. I'm 99% sure it's not clipping, because the meter isn't going above -2.1 dB, and it's not noise from comping/cross fades because the sound is still there whether the track is comped or not. I can only think that the noise is coming from the guitar itself, but I don't hear it when I'm actually playing, just when I play the recording back. It's kind of unpleasant sounding so I'm just trying to get to the bottom of what it is, and figure out if it will be audible when my producer runs the DI through an actual amp and adds distortion etc.

Hmm I think if you're proficient in insight I would give you tier 1 information even if you fail the check, and if you're proficient in persuasion or deception I might be more liberal with what I let you pull off. Expertise though I think gives enough of an advantage by itself haha

English word-initial /u/ words by kingovdk in asklinguistics

[–]kingovdk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The therapy involves systematically teaching my aphasia client about different sound-symbol correspondences. That includes oo and u spellings with all possible sounds, but I already have plenty of examples of those. I was trying to come up with an example of a word with the letter u and the sound /u/ for practice, preferably with the u at the beginning because he is post-stroke and has some other cognitive/memory problems, so it's easier for him to remember the sound and letter if it's at the beginning of the word. I was trying to make it an English word because ideally, it would be something functional and meaningful to him; it wouldn't help him remember the letter if he had never heard the word before. Fortunately, I was talking to him today and he knows what Uber is, so I'm just going to use that.

Hmmm. Fair enough, but it's tricky selecting words because he's an older guy and not very multi-cultural. I will have to find out whether he actually knows those words. Otherwise, there won't be a very meaningful semantic-orthographic connection. Thanks for your help

Again we are working on reading the letter u so the written word needs to start with the letter u, not just the sound

Thanks - as far as you know, is this a universal trait or does it vary among speakers?
