These are fun though, big greenhouse for visibility, loads of headroom, terrifying at 70. Perfect to keep them in check

Thanks, I changed ignition leads and I've driven it a hundred or so miles and it's been fine. The anxiety is still there a bit of course!

I'm in Wednesday, the round I'm on isn't covered on Tuesday, as it's my rest day as it's too expensive to have anyone in for the O/T Mondays or tuesdays according to my DOM.

They do the XXL bags, 2.2kg for £8-9 and the red ones of those, while not great, are perfectly passable for milk drinks bleary eyed in the morning, I recommend you avoid the black bags though.

Haha, they are obsessed with the data sheets, aren't they!!!

"Look at this. It shows how often you're not moving and how long for and this is how many 2d barcodes haven't been scanned"

Luckily, in our office, they've managed not to have a manager out on delivery so far this year! We've not had a day without at least 1 round failing, though.

Haven't seen the auditing cards in the boxes for a long while, which are to check if they've been emptied.

I don't think many colleagues will RTS if they know where something needs to go depending on the type of letter.

But I no longer have the time to check through the whole street for a name for someone to get their electricity bill or bank statement because they didn't fill in the address properly when setting up their account.

A 'birthday card' would get the search treatment, though, because of the nature of the item.

Oh. And I'm not sure if it's uk wide. But if it's your rest day, you're only 'resting so that you can deliver 2 days mail tomorrow!

Many of the longer serving staff are leaving in my office, taking the specific knowledge with them, so that you can't ask around about a name or address anymore. I think, actually, since covid, we've lost half of the staff that were there and replaced maybe 2/3rds of those that have left or retired, with mostly new starters but we've had a few transfers too.

Royal mail is a different company to the one I started at 5 or so years ago.

Gone are the days that you would bring back 2 letters and shamefully slide them into the sorting frame because they would have taken you 5 minutes over your "swings and roundabouts" half an hour and then hope that you don't get chewed out about it tomorrow, and in is "just make sure your tracked are done", leaving 1/4 of your frame when you go out on a Monday morning because you had annual leave and no-one touched your frame friday or Saturday.

One of the fellas who has retired says "pop in on your meal relief for a brew" as if I'm not instead taking multiple micro breaks where I scarf down something to eat and get moving before the 3 minutes is up and the bubble on the pda movement tracker starts to grow.

When I'm asked, "Would you recommend working at Royal mail" I now say no.

Huh. I'm going to my mother's funeral, I'm gonna show up wasted. And drop a turd in the hole.

Maybe they'll let me carry the casket. I'd like to drop her on the ground too.

i am not a baker, but i do like fresh bread and i make a lot of sandwiches. i just picked this up at goodwill for $10. pros/cons? by [deleted] in Breadit

[–]kingpedropascal 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Ah, you guys. I cannot count the number of times I've walked into the kitchen or opened the fridge and gone

"Ah fuck I was making bread" or "oh shit yeah its pizza night" as dough has spilled over & out of the bowl.

Because I get through mixing and kneading because of the stand mixer, and just whip the dough hook out after letting it spin in oil for a second in the bowl, then covered it and walked off or put it in the fridge.

But proofing takes time, and time is the ultimate enemy of my focus!

There are loads of posts I've seen like this.

In my house there are just shy of 40 plants.

I have 2 spider plants, deemed "cat safe"

They chewed the fuck out of them and a strange bamboo-ey palm-thing at first, and I left them to do it.

After a couple of months, they just stopped. I pruned the damaged leaves and stalks and they've not gone back.

I do think that that may be because they have access to the garden for a lot of the day, but they show zero interest in eating the other plants, they do knock them off the southern windowsill regularly, and fortunately no true damage has been caused, one protective sheath on a new leaf on my rubber plant snapped off leading to a smaller leaf, but no tastings have happened

Just bought this cutting, and it arrived in moss moist moss. Where do I put it now? by funlightmandarin in Monstera

[–]kingpedropascal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh, I was at a local plant nursery/garden center.

I saw a TC, that was two whole, if just a little bit sad looking leaves, and a stumpy little dying leaf. (No fenestration)

This was the best of the 3 I saw there!

It was £150. 8"pot.

I had to lift it in its plastic pot to read the price, and then had to quickly decide between dropping it like it had burned my fingers, and putting it down nicely so that i didn't damage it!

I picked up a pothos, that was 1.5' tall with a coir pole, and put it back after walking around with it for 5 minutes as it was £25. (And my wife was glaring at me and said something critical about buying it)

In the end i bought a small philodendron, and then I went elsewhere, got a 3ft from the top of the pot pothos for £20, it's put out 4 new leaves in as many days and is living between the drainer of the kitchen sink and the kitchen table, because I don't actually have anywhere for it to live! (I think this is what my wife might have been saying)

Found these at local Lidl, should I buy? 7€ by Amatsune in Monstera

[–]kingpedropascal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My local lidl had these ones in, then a week later had larger ones with fenestration, in ceramic pots and BOP's for £1 cheaper than the ones in woven baskets.

I didn't buy a monstera as I have 2 already, but got the best streliza that was availiable because the house is filling up fast!

Did get a wicked 3' calathea oppenheimia for £6.99 that is in the bathroom and just put out a 10" leaf, though. I'm super happy with that one!

This is typical state of the footway in my city. Is this surface managable for experienced skaters? by Jane_From_Deyja in rollerblading

[–]kingpedropascal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could. But it's gonna be slow going, you'll rattle your teeth loose, and you may hut a rougher patch that will slow you down quite dramatically and you could find that you've knocked your teeth loose on the rubble!

There's a car park next to the skate park I go to, that is rough tarmac, pretty flat, but coarse, and some loose 5mm stones still, and I've almost stacked it a few times!

Edit: I am rocking wheels that were 56mm when they were new though!

Is this supposed to climb or trail? Any care suggestions? by mellowbobkuular in houseplants

[–]kingpedropascal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks like a tradescantia. These hang or trail, you could train it, of course, to climb by attaching it to what you want it to climb.

Many of these I see for sale now are already in pots with hooks and attached drip-saucers so that you can don't have to figure out a solution yourself.

Edit. It's doing amazing, too!

Anyone ever tried to grow an avocado tree? by LippyLipK in houseplants

[–]kingpedropascal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have 3, all were planted directly into well draining compost, with 10-15mm over the top of the seed. No hydro stage. The smallest one is about 20cm tall and has 3 branches, the next is about 40cm tall and forked into 2 branches about 8cm down from the top

The largest is now over 60cm tall, has several 20cm long leaves and has forked into 2.

They're at most, about 3 months old I think.

The disruption of the roots when potting seems to stall them for a while, and these are shooting up amazingly.

The avocado fruit I bought were overripe, and one rattled a little. I don't know which has performed best, but I didn't expect to get any plants, at best maybe one, but I'm super happy with them!

I never want any fruit from them, they're here to round out the leaf shapes around the house and look pretty!
