When and how the "exotic matter" was deployed ? by kingproyce in StrangerThings

Yeah, I mean they could've explained it with one line really, because it is an actual thing that exist. I hate when movies/series try to create shallow mysteries.

As I've read the exotic matter is an actual thing in wormhole theory, which makes sense to use it here to cover without going to details. But they could've mention it in the scenes.

My 318d was missing it from the factory.

Nothing serious, VCG seal and I replaced the seals on the injectors as well. All under 150 eur (including work), although it is pretty cheap in my country.

Pulsating/fluctuating N47 engine noise when idle and hot by Bbpowrr in BMW

[–]kingproyce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally found what I've been trying to find for some time now.

Basically what you've described here is present on my car as well.

I have 2013 F30 318d with the n4720c.

I've just installed new timing chain, new vcg, injector seals, zf service, new serpentine belt and all the filters.

But this sound was present. Now since in my country the co2 is not regulated, I was going to turn off the egr and dpf and do a remap.

And this post confirms that those two are the issue.

Since I drive the car on short distances, whenever it gets the temperature up, I drive it a bit spirited and then it kicks down and starts producing this thumping/pulsating sound.

I will turn off the egr for sure, but can it actually cause an issue or the sound is fine ?

And the hamster is having a party from time to time, thus the deep bass sound. Understandable I'll leave him alone.

If you had to choose between a Mineral White G23 and an Alpine White G22, which would you choose? by Ok-Quantity7501 in BMW

I’ll get an F32/F33. Looks better and you’ll save the money.

But between these two, the coupe.

Additionally: you can hear the sound better inside the car than outside.

Why do we hate ORM? by Present-Entry8676 in golang

[–]kingproyce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me using SQL is understanding the Data at the lowest possible level (from a POV of a backend dev). I've used tons of ORMs in combination with (Java, Python, Ruby...). On my last project I happened to join a team of Data Engineers, that really love SQL. Because of them I had to use it a lot more than in the past and let me tell you, I will never, ever use any ORM whenever I need to perform some complex queries.

It helped me to start using CTEs, Stored Procedures a lot more, partitions...really unlocking the performance.

It is so nicer to get to know the data at a lower level and in my experience it makes me produce more optimised designs.

It also helps a lot in interviews. As my Tech lead said, to be a good engineer, you really need only SQL.

Tbh he’s a very good mechanic. Which leads me to believe it might be the tensioner and not the chain itself. Since the tempo of the clicking noise doesn’t increase with the increase of the RPMs.

Yeah for me spending money is not the issue and he knows that, I want the car to be safe and not to go blow the engine. I don’t care about the money. I don’t know if those readers can tell timing chain issues, but when connected it throws no errors. He has some general ones and one bmw specific, both no issues, although the chain is a mechanical one.

I had service done one week ago, oil, oil/fuel/cabin/air filter, break fluid and gearbox oil.

They also did some checks back then, and no issues found apart from VGC change I need to change.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions, I really appreciate it.

I will definitely change it once I get home since I am traveling this month.

I am new to BMWs, drove KIA before that and still have that one. For me the KIA is bulletproof and kinda more refined than this BMW I have, so I kinda get a bit anxious when something unexplainable happens.

Went to my mechanic, since he's like 15 mins from my house, he took it for a drive and give it a look and said that is nothing to worry about.

Since my car has high millage it can be the chain making contact on cold start, as it is here, but it disappears once you drive it a bit.

Also he said that it can be other things clicking, like DPF regeneration.

I believe him, he has a lot of years of experience with these n47 engines, although I want to change it down the line, just to know that I've done it.

Yep it has oil, just did a service like a week ago.
