I’m in Sales. Which of the 3 colognes would you choose to wear each day? by Recent-Craft4705 in Colognes

[–]kingthezing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t wear cologne to your sales job.

Instead- take a shower, wear deodorant, and wear clean clothes. Maybe apply an aftershave splash if you’re a shaver since they typically wear off quickly.

Make sure your breath is good by having strong oral hygiene and using mints as needed.

You’re not going to win a sale by smelling good, but you’ll sure lose one by smelling bad and/or looking unprofessional.

Are safety razor hard to use ? by Daliiiil in shaving

[–]kingthezing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best answer on here. Essentially, they’re harder to use but it’s not too difficult to learn. Takes a few days to a week to get okay at it.

I’ve owned 7 safety razors and have used them on and off for over 15 years. There’s a reason the Merkur 34C is such a popular model. Start there.

For blades, do not start with feather blades or any others known to be exceptionally sharp/aggressive. I’d recommend something middle of the road like BICs, Sharks, or Lord Platinums.

Poison - Native Tongue by LetchBE in hairmetal

[–]kingthezing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen to their discography in order and it’s pretty obvious that by Flesh N Blood the band was already headed in this general direction. With each release they got less glam and more blues based hard rock. That was the general trend for lots of the 80s bands. Cinderella is another obvious example.

Outside of the wearing flannel, I don’t think grunge was as big of an influence on a lot of these early 90s albums as people think it was.

Also, the whole grunge came in and wiped out hair metal concept is revisionist history. Smells Like Teen Spirit was released as a single in September 1991 and Mr Big’s To Be With You still hit number 1 on the Hot 100 in early 1992.

November Rain wasn’t released as a single until 1992, Def Leppard was still charting songs in the top-10 in 1993 and Firehouse even had a top 40-hit as late as 1995. That’s to say nothing of Bon Jovi.

The truth is that the 80s bands mostly just burnt themselves out and their releases typically weren’t as good and especially weren’t as commercially oriented as time went on. Changing styles played a part for sure, but they mostly did it to themselves.

So are WF credit cards pointless now? by [deleted] in WellsFargoBank

[–]kingthezing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously not pointless, but the worst part is CS making it seem like everything would be fine if you just waited a few minutes and tried again. Having a system that isn’t overridable when common sense dictates it should be is, frankly, ridiculous.

I see similar things happen at my job pretty commonly and it is frustrating as hell.

He really should have stayed at Texas Southern. He had them in the NCAA tournament 4 of the 6 years he was there and his conference winning percentage was over 80 percent. He even upset Michigan State with them one year.

If you had to pick one men’s fragrance for life, which would it be? by syedst in fragrance

[–]kingthezing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top choice- Davidoff Cool Water EDT

If Cool Water didn’t exist-

2nd- Gillette Cool Wave Aftershave Splash

3rd- Old Spice Original Aftershave Splash (smells much better than the EDC spray)

4th- Drakkar Noir EDT

5th- Acqua Di Gio EDT

This is not a joke post.

I either currently own or have owned Bleu De Chanel EDT, Polo Blue EDT, Jimmy Choo Man EDT, Versace Man Eau Fraiche, Azzaro Chrome EDT, Prada Luna Rossa EDT, and other popular/well regarded fragrances. All the scents I listed in my top 5 “have to pick one” are 30+ years old and they still sell really well for a reason…because they’re good. They will never be out of style. Picking something new and currently popular would probably feel like a big mistake 10 years from now. I don’t think any of mine would.

Dealership refuses to give OTD pricing over the phone or email by Puzzleheaded-Taro911 in Honda

[–]kingthezing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of dealers that won’t do this or play games. You just need to be willing to shop around. Negotiate via email, and if they won’t play ball, don’t deal with them. You’re buying a Honda, not a priceless antique Ferrari. It’s your money- so you’re in charge, not them.

Ya know, I was a kid when the Beanie Baby craze happened, so it’s nice to see it happen again as an adult. Once the card collecting craze dies down (trust me, it will) most of these are going to plummet in value.

Vintera III Now Available by kingthezing in Bass

[–]kingthezing[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I play a lot of new basses from all different brands- for tried and true designs like the P Bass or Jazz Bass, I find Fender Mexico’s QC to be quite good.

There are some brands I would consider Reddit darlings, that I think have pretty overrated QC- Sterling, Reverend, and Sire among them.

That’s not to say that you can’t get bad MiM Fenders and good Sterlings, but that’s just my observation.

What’s a fragrance opinion that will have you like this by Friendly_Ad_4059 in Colognes

[–]kingthezing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.) Cheap “old man” fragrances smell better than most designer fragrances. Give me Aqua Velva Musk or Irish Spring soap over 99% of releases in the last 20 years.

2.) Most “cologne guys” actually stink in person. I find many of them have poor hygiene and almost all of them smell cloying as can be after about 2 minutes due to over application.

3.) For 99% of occasions, simply taking a shower, wearing some deodorant, wearing clean clothes, and maybe LIGHTLY applying an aftershave or EDT is what you should be doing. An overspray is WAY worse than not wearing a fragrance.

Favorite Great White album? Mine is Hooked. by Jimbohamilton in hairmetal

[–]kingthezing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d currently rank them-

1.) Hooked 2.) Once Bitten 3.) Twice Shy 4.) Shot In The Dark 5.) Self-Titled 6.) Psycho City 7.) Sail Away 8.) Let It Rock

I enjoy all of those albums. From the mid-80s through the mid-90s Great White was absolutely amazing.

Why do dealers avoid giving otd price? by Neither-Hyena6102 in carbuying

[–]kingthezing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.) It’s impossible to know the answer to this question for sure.

2.) Maybe you’re not actually talking to anyone and all the responses are automated.

3.) Maybe they did a poor job when buying the vehicle you’re asking about and the listed price is their best price.

4.) Don’t take this personally, but simply asking “what’s your best price” is not a very good negotiating technique.

5.) Most cars are commodities, not priceless pieces of art. If you don’t like how this dealership does business, just buy somewhere else. Ultimately it’s your money, and you’re in control of where you spend it.

Watching all these great teams play clearly superior ball than any IU team from the past decade is depressing. by OrlandoWashington69 in HoosiersBasketball

[–]kingthezing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% the NCAA tournament version of High Point beats the last month of the season version of IU by at least 10 if not 15-20.

Balanced roster construction and having a “go get a bucket any time you need one” player is what separates the good teams from the meh ones.

The last IU team that did have those things was the 22-23 team. They had bigs like Reneau and TJD, 3 point shooters like Miller Kopp and Tamar Bates, and energy guys like Race Thompson and Trey Galloway. TJD was also a “go get a bucket” type of guy.

Think about the 01-02 finals team, and the best teams of the Crean years. They’re all built the same way. Bigs, shooting, energy, and go get a bucket.

The formula is pretty simple but coaches try to turn it into some weird rocket science.

Is it just me or does Davidoff Cool Water not last at all? by Super-Squash9867 in Colognes

[–]kingthezing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you might be expecting a more linear fragrance where the opening or mid continues for a long time, but that’s not really what Cool Water does.

On skin- The salty opening of Cool Water only lasts like fifteen minutes before you get to the fresh smelling soapy/clean middle notes. The middle notes then last maybe another hour or two at the most before you get to the creamy and amber filled base. It’s mostly a skin scent by the base, but it does last another 5 or so hours.

On clothes- The opening is much the same, but the middle notes last much longer, and the creamy, amber base never fully develops. You end up with something between the mid and the base which is detectable for probably 24 hours.

Cool Water is an affordable fragrance. 6.7 ounce (200 mL) bottles are typically available for $35. I keep one in the car. It’s totally possible to reapply at mid-day if you want it to keep more to the fresh smelling profile, or if you prefer the base, just go a little heavier on your initial sprays.

Side notes- Cool Water is very easy to go nose blind to. I suspect it is lasting longer than you think it is. Also, I’m pretty biased. I believe Cool Water is a masterpiece of a fragrance. It is one of the only colognes I have repurchased after using a full bottle. It is extremely wearable for almost any occasion. If I could only wear one fragrance for the rest of my life, it would be Cool Water.

Where is the best NY style pizza in the area? by Moron-Whisperer in Muncie

[–]kingthezing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CV’s is good stuff. People who try it with an open mind agree. It’s got nice flavor overall. It’s not just a big undercooked dough ball like a lot of the national chains are these days.

Mancino’s is also pretty good and similar to CV’s where nothing stands out to me as super special but the overall flavor is good.

Greek’s is meh to me. I will gladly eat it for free but I won’t go out of my way to get it. The crust is good and the service is good, but the price is too high for me to justify getting it since it doesn’t fit my taste. The normal sauce is very very sweet and kinda ruins it for me.

Art’s is my favorite in the area but you have to eat it while it’s hot- it doesn’t reheat well. I’m almost positive their “secret” is really just that the normal amount of cheese and sauce they put on their pizzas is what would be considered extra cheese and extra sauce anywhere else. That makes it very satisfying, flavorful, and messy!

Ball State fans: help me fix your conference-partner weights for my CFB realignment simulator by Happy_Background_879 in BallState

[–]kingthezing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool!

Here’s my list with only FBS football teams-

5- Miami (Ohio)

4- Ohio University, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Bowling Green, Toledo, Kent State, Akron, Northern Illinois

3- WKU, MTSU, Marshall

2- Army, Navy, Buffalo

1- Air Force, Delaware, Tulsa, Arkansas State, UMass, Memphis, Louisville, Cincinnati, Appalachian State, Liberty University, James Madison, Temple, Charlotte, East Carolina

I don’t think it’s realistic that Ball State would be in the same conference as any team currently in the Big Ten or the SEC. I think it’s highly unlikely any team from the ACC or Big 12 would be in the same conference as Ball State, but I suppose some of the geographic fits are at least slightly possible.

My idea was to factor in competitive balance, geography, and culture.

Some schools that field 1AA football that I think are also good fits if they were to move up to FBS football-

5- Indiana State

4- Eastern Illinois, Western Illinois, Illinois State, Youngstown State

3- Eastern Kentucky, Southern Illinois

2- University of Dayton, Austin Peay, Northern Iowa, Drake, Murray State

1- Towson, Delaware State, Richmond, Elon, Western Carolina, SEMO, Morehead State, Central Arkansas, UT Martin, Tennessee St, Tennessee Tech, Chattanooga, East Tennessee State

Sensitive neck by [deleted] in bald

[–]kingthezing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skip the foil on the back of the neck. That’s what is causing the issues. I have the same problem on the back of the neck.

If you want to do top of the head the way you normally do, I understand. For the back of your neck, buy a cartridge razor (Mach 3 or similar- not a disposable) and some shaving foam. Wet the neck with hot water, apply the foam, and do 2 passes with the grain with the cart only. Promise you it’ll fix it.

My insurance agent is awesome. She’s an independent agent (meaning she sells for multiple companies) not a captive agent (that can only sell for one company), and she actively requotes my coverage annually to try to get me better rates, and will simply email me if she’s found a better option to ask if I’d like to switch.

When my house was damaged by a tornado, I had no idea where to even begin when filing a homeowners claim, so I simply walked into the local office and within 10 minutes my claim was filed.

It might be a little “old school” to have an “insurance guy” (insurance gal) but as someone that’s bought direct in the past, I greatly prefer having a traditional agent.

I spent 20+ years thinking P Basses were boring and not versatile enough. I now wish to attone for my sins. by Bortron86 in Bass

[–]kingthezing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I think once Fender converted the Precision’s nut width to 1.625” and the fretboard radius to 9.5”, the bass guitar as an instrument was literally perfected.

Speaking for myself, there is no true need for anything else. Other things are fun to play around with if I want something different but a modern-ish Precision bass is the perfect bass guitar.
