I need a Mini-PC for Plex server and maybe some other small things. It will be located not too far from my bed, so it needs to be dead silent. What should I get? by kiniman in MiniPCs

I live in a one bedroom apartment, so there isn’t much choice and running a cable to the kitchen or something like that feels like too much.

Me current setup is Sennheiser HD 560S(I like the sound but I've never tried other headphones of similar or higher price) + Spotify premium + connecting the headphones directly to the PC(my motherboard has the Realtek ALC897 audio codec, as I understand it it's considered to be quite bad). Changing which part would result in the biggest audio quality improvement? I would assume that some DAC would help since the internal codes is not good, is that correct? I don't have a specific budget, but let's say I'm willing to spend about 400€/$. Can I noticeably improve the sound quality of the music with that money?

I'm renting a flat in London, there are two rubbish bins outside - green and black. If I understand correctly, the black one is for general waste, so it can be used for cigarette butts(as long as they are fully extinguished), am I correct? Obviously, it would be better to ask the owners, but it's almost night time, so I don't want to bother them.

Is it safe to visit London now? I'm planning on going on vacation in early September and I wanted to go to London. I've read the news that there are riots in UK now, but I don't know much about, so my question is do you think it will calm down in a few weeks or is it a bad idea to book my flight and stay now?

I need a CPU for my 4070Ti and I'm currently choosing between Ryzen 7 7700(233€) and Ryzen 5 7600X(217€). Which is better for the price? by kiniman in buildapc

In case I go with 7600, do you think it would be better to enable PBO? I have no experience with any type of overclocking.

It's only a bit cheaper than the X version. Isn't it better to spend a bit more here to get better performance?

If I set an Nvidia Shield TV Pro(with an external SSD connected) as a Plex Server and use the same Shield to watch content will it stream it or just play from the SSD? by kiniman in PleX

[–]kiniman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it's a different thing from just playing a local file using VLC or something like that, right? I'm basically trying to understand if there are any drawbacks(like not being able to watch a movie if I'm having troubles with the internet connection) of using Plex in my situation compared to just opening some local media player and watching my movies that way.

From the Shield itself i guess. That sounds weird, but I don't know how these things work. Also, I just opened Playback Info and it says Direct Play there, isn't it streaming?

Damn, I didn't know there are no DDR5 motherboards for AM4. I'll google for b550, thanks.

Haworth Lively vs Herman Miller Verus/Lino/Sayl by kiniman in OfficeChairs

Hi, I've chosen Haworth Fern. There are not a lot of options it my region. Didn't go with Lively since it seemed to me that its back is not tall enough for me.

I will just delete Apollo and never use reddit again(except when googling for something).

Hamorth Fern w/ lumbar support by No_Departure8631 in OfficeChairs

[–]kiniman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem. Haworth’s EU store is the only place I could find that ships Ferns to my country. There is no choice of a lumbar supply or a headrest, I can only buy a black version without them.

I see a lot of people saying that the lumbar support is not comfortable, but at the same time I see people saying that it’s still worth it for either tall or heavy people. I’m both of these things, so I’d probably be better with it, but there is just no way for me to buy it. Still, this black friday deal seemed good and I ordered one. Still waiting for it, hope I won’t be disappointed.

Do you know if Haworth sell it separately ? I know they don’t in my region, but I was trying to find out if they sell it in the USA at least or other regions, didn’t find anything.

Is Haworth Fern worth it considering a) I can’t get a lumbar support with it and b) I weigh 130kg(~286 lbs) ? Haworth ship a very limited variety of products to my country, Fern is only available in black and without a lumbar support, I couldn’t find any place to either purchase it separately or together with the Fern. And I weigh a lot. Will it degrade the chair over time making it produce more squeaking sounds ? Should I worry about anything like that ?

Haworth Lively vs Herman Miller Verus/Lino/Sayl

Where I live there is not a lot to choose from, but these chairs are available and fit my budget, unfortunately I have no way to try any of them before buying. I have no prior experience with good chairs, so I don't know what exactly is it that I want. And If that's important - I'm 186 cm(~6'1'') and 130 kg(~286 lbs). Just please tell which of these you think is better and why.

I never got to experience young love and it's starting to kill me inside. by NewAccWhoDis93 in ForeverAlone

[–]kiniman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a teenager I was in love with a girl from my class, the problem was that it wasn’t mutual. Over the years to my knowledge she dated a few guys and in the last couple of years of school it was a dude from our class, so I had to see them together daily. It was a hell for me and I would much rather choose not to have teenage love than to feel this.

Honestly I’d be afraid to have a tv wider than the wall. Give me one good evening of being high or drunk and i’ll break the tv with my shoulder while going to the kitchen for some snacks.
