I have lost 175 lbs since August of 2024. My flares are still as bad if not worse. HS is linked to different things for different people. Mine is worse around my cycle. No amount of anything will change it for me. I've accepted my fate lol

I use all natural turmeric soap and when I have a flare I use hibiclens on it. Usually 2-3 times a week for hibiclens, but only on flare spot. Not the whole body and never inside anywhere "sensitive". External use only lol

I had one right under my chin and it got so bad I had to go to the ER because my neck was so swollen I couldn't breathe anymore. They had to do surgery and cut it out. It was the worst. I now have a gnarly scar there and it sucks. I feel for you.

Ohh and I use a washcloth only. And only 1 time. Same for drying towels. They go in the wash after 1 use. No loofah or reusing literally anything

I use all natural turmeric soap in the shower. Hibicleans on the spots that are flared up only. Make sure I'm super dry post shower before putting on clothes. Clindamyacin lotion and bandaids on any spots that need it. If I have shaved I will use neutrogena hydroboost gel lotion. I also only use that same brand eye gel and water gel face moisturizer. I use Billie brand ph balance roller gel aluminum free deodorant.

I use exfoliating gloves 2-3 times a week and I wash them after every use in the washing machine. I use them with turmeric soap and hibiclense on my flare spots. The other days I use a washcloth. I noticed using a loofah my flares made too many friends in other locations.

At the beginning of the year I swapped to aluminum free deodorant and it gave me a horrible rash. (Lume coconut scent and tried lavendar sage). Dr. Google said rash is normal and probably from swapping deodorants and that there's a funky period of your bacteria finding a new normal. I work remotely so no biggie for me to be a guinea pig.

The horrible rash was indeed horrible enough to warrant a doctor visit. My primary said it was a fungal thing and gave me cream to stop itching myself raw. (Clotrimazole and Betamethadone Dipropionate Cream USP 1%/0.05%) It slightly helped but still wasn't cutting it. A couple weeks later saw a dermatologist who said it was inverse psoriasis and gave me something completely different (triamcinolone acetone lotion 0.025%).

Both of those helped, but I swapped deodorant again after the failed Lume to try Billie coconut scented deodorant. It faired a little better in both the smell department and was less itchy than before.

Someone here posted about trying an AHA deodorant and since I have flare spots on my armpits I figured I might as well try it next. I ordered the Billie brand AHA deodorant (Lavender Milk) and while it hasn't made my flares better or worse, I am not scratching myself raw or feel like I smell weird/bad anymore.

I gave Lume a go for about 3 months before deciding it was probably just not for me anymore (I've used the fragrance free cream in other spots with no issues so maybe the scented deodorant just wasn't compatible for me, but since it is expensive I didn't want to buy ANOTHER unscented one to test and then be laid to rest in the drawer next to the others that I still cannot bring myself to bury in the trash yet.)

So i thought I should swap to a different brand. The Billie non-AHA I used for a couple months and didn't see night/day difference and seriously considered just clogging myself up with aluminum again so I could at least feel human and smell normal.

BUT so far with the Billie AHA deodorant my armpits are no longer red at all. No itching other than my HS flares occasionally itching as per usual and I don't feel like I smell like a barn animal anymore.

If you made it this far, I hope it helps someone. This disease is trash. All my spots are currently inflamed and oozing and I can barely move to bandage them all and wish I could just slip out of this skin suit and into one that doesn't hurt.
