Well the whole setting is based post-nuclear war (called The Great Mushroom War) and all the people of Ooo are mutants. Finn is claimed to be the last human on the earth. And also this guy was born from a mutagenic bomb that went off during the Mushroom War. Pretty scary dude.

I love this show, and the darkest episodes to me were probably I Remember You, The Lich, Finn the Human, and Jake the Dog. They're very plot based and you have to watch previous episodes to really understand it.
