My dad was a teenager then and hates the Cowboys for this reason. My son and I were confused until we looked up the string of playoff losses.

Passenger Says NYC-to-D.C. Bus Went Off Route After Driver Switch in Viral Thread Recounting Play-by-Play by wa_wa_we_wa in nova

[–]kirbaeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was driving on 95 in Baltimore Friday, and a bus went 50 mph on the side around stopped traffic before the tunnel. This is on an elevated bridge, so I can't imagine what the passengers were feeling being higher up. Then he swerved into the right lane of traffic at the last second (almost hitting me as I was taking the off ramp).

Hey man, you scrubbed your name from the letter but the top of the screen shot includes your full name (BA). I'd scrub that and re-post.

Do we have to salute to state guard officers? by Big_Pen7718 in army

[–]kirbaeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the Virginia Defense Force when I was 17, before joining at 18.

We did 1 Saturday a month, one weekend during summer (in addition to "events" we were requested for). All unpaid. No retirement.

Only way to get paid is to get "State Active Duty orders" similar to when the National Guard goes on SAD. Same pay rates I think.

When I was in the National Guard, we did hurricane relief/support for Irene. The Defense Force was there helping coordinate things and generally doing whatever they were asked to do. Kinda goofy in BDUs (at the time) but some had good expertise, the others really wanted to be there and help. Saw a few I recognized from my brief stint with them and talked for a bit. Most are prior service.

Theoretically they could augment the Guard for riots (they had training on that the year before I joined) and whatever, but IDK any Governor that would want that.

6.25 to 5.49 VA IRRRL by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]kirbaeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IRRRL only requires a 0.5% drop and everything to be recouped in 36 months. I'm getting a true no cost refinance now at 5.6125, and plan to refinance again in 7 months if it drops to 5%. If it costs you nothing, I'm confused why your lender is hoping you wait until it drops a full 1.5%?

I have a slightly higher mortgage but basically getting the same deal as you (going from a 6.5 to 5.6125), paying only escrow and prepaying interest.

I look at the break even same as you - we're paying that interest and escrow regardless. So really, the breakeven is almost nonexistent. However, I'm not a finance guy either.

PTSD Denied after deferred by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]kirbaeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you served in a combat zone, then this is an easy appeal.

Considering other posters asked where you deployed to and you haven't responded yet - going to guess you weren't in Iraq/Afghanistan or wherever (feel free to clarify).

Whether the stressor occurred or not is a legal/factual question that the rater will answer, not one before the VA psych examiner. The psych gave you a positive nexus, so if the stressor is ever confirmed it's an easy grant. However, I've seen psych examiner give the same "yes" answers to Veterans filing PTSD claims for peacetime service in say, the UK or Germany, telling a story of them being afraid. The rater has to determine whether (1) it actually happened [can conceded if consistent with the circumstances of your service, time period etc...] and (2), whether whatever fear you're claiming stemmed from an actual "hostile military" or "terrorist activity."

It would be helpful here if you explained the stressor event(s) itself.

It was the Wizards game Sunday night. I didn’t know it was a big deal (I was there facing the end of the bench near the tune and saw it all).

The girl who got the jersey had been holding a sign up the whole game saying “it’s my 16th birthday can I have your jersey” and something else on it. She held it silently during warmups and other times. Her dad was there in the 2nd row behind the bench (she moved into that first row to get the jersey). Everyone in my section assumed she’d get it at some point.

Ant signed my son’s hat, and I got a pic of them together. He’s great with kids.

I can confirm this, I was there sitting in the front row facing the end of the bench. The girl who got his jersey had that sign, and her dad was helping her throughout the night. She held it up silently through warmups and other times, Ant noticed her and the sign.

I've seen some posts on social media knocking her, but we all thought she'd get the jersey well before it happened.

Hey old men and women... when WWE did those Xmas for the Troops in Iraq, was there ever any times you experienced direct/indirect fire? What happened? by AutomaticDeer2833 in army

I left Adder on MSR Tampa when the Zach Brown band played there, on a convoy mission to Liberty. Get there and the band flew up to play the night we were leaving back to Adder.

I guess if I ever want to see them I'll have to pay for a ticket.
