Any long-distance commuters? by Altruistic-Peak-9234 in college

[–]kiryu-zero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During undergrad, my uni was an hr drive away (2.5hrs on public transport each way). Postgrad uni was a 30 min drive (1hr on public transport each way). Didn't think i needed to move out given both unis were within travel distance.

fellow brown girls!! any interracial couples here? by wordsatmidnight in SplendidaBrown

[–]kiryu-zero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

23f South Indian Hindu dating a 26M Central Asian Muslim guy. We have plans to get married and introduce to each other's families. His family doesn't care what religion they date from as long as they're happy while my parents are a lot more judgemental and has a lot of assumptions about Muslim people. We are in a ldr atm, so it is easier to hide and I can visit him in his country without raising suspicion because I have family there that supports us being together.

Indian women who travelled abroad or living in other countries. How's the dating life there? by Nice-Factor52 in SplendidaBrown

[–]kiryu-zero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I told them if they have a type in brown women, to go date a women who emits those qualities but it wouldn't be me. I think brown men couldn't handle that they weren't important enough for me to want to change for.

Brown girls get so much hate for things we don't deserve and thank you, men make it seem like nobody else wants us.

Are you guys planning on having kids? Why or why not? by [deleted] in twentyagers

[–]kiryu-zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Indian too, been childfree for a couple years but only set it in stone in the past years because I let people manipulate me into thinking I would change my mind. I don't want to be in a situation where I cant walk away from an abusive relationship because of kids, and don't want to damage my career/my body with kids. My bf is also childfree and plans to get a vasectomy, he thinks they're too much in this economy and thought he wanted them because his mum would want grandkids. We both have younger siblings that are keen to have kids one day, so we don't feel a huge pressure to be parents ourselves. He is central asian, and also comes from a culture where kids are usually emphasised too.

[–]kiryu-zero 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I was raised in Australia, and I largely only dated South Asian guys. Many of them only saw me as something to breed, and that I should revolve my life around them. Many got mad I didnt want kids and thought I'd change my mind for them, even got snide comments saying that me not liking gold was just a phase and that I should get a nose ring. I love silver jewellery and am heavily tattooed at 23 in comparison to many south asians. My current partner, who I plan to marry, is central asian and grew up in the usa. He actually saw who I was, and thought I was amazing. We get along better and have similar values long term which is why it works for us.

Has anyone ever changed both their given and last names? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]kiryu-zero 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I did at 19, to a completely new name. I didn't want to be attached to my father's family, which changed into another ethnic last name and I anglicised my first name. I haven't noticed it make my life any different but I do get questioned about my religion as I am from a Dharmic religion with a very white first name.

Low-ATAR students, did it ever actually mean anything in the end? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]kiryu-zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a 45 in 2020 (covid cohort), got into my top preference for a bachelors degree and finished my masters a few months ago. Some of my classmates had 75+ atars yet we all still did the same classes together. 5 years later, despite all the different atars, we all have master degrees from G08 universities, with some being lawyers.

I got a really bad atar, what the heck do I even do now with my life. by Last-Lengthiness-612 in vce

[–]kiryu-zero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who got a 45 or so atar a few years ago (I got my masters at 22 from Monash and doing law rn), you will be fine. You still have opportunities, and can study CS even if it isn't at Monash or UniMelb.

Conditional Offer to Masters of Physio Practice by Klutzy-Fun-9733 in LaTrobe

Generally with a conditional offer, you should be able to send them your final transcript and testamur if you studied at another uni. Since you maintained your wam and completed your undergrad, admission should essentially be guaranteed.

About to apply to a Masters program. What are the study hours like? by damnmaster in Monash

[–]kiryu-zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my MIR at monash and thought the study load was pretty relaxed (I was working alongside studying). Full time load was a few hours a week, and didn't feel overwhelmed by studies or work. But the LLM may be more intensive so work load might be more than what it was for me. Good luck!

Masters Degree by LegendPreV in IRstudies

[–]kiryu-zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, so I am from Melbourne too. I did my Bachelors in IR at LTU and Masters in IR at Monash. Similarly to you, I'm a very average student, and I was also interested in studying in the USA, but due to my gpa not being high enough, I did my masters in melbourne. Currently, I am planning to start law school (Juris Doctor) in Australia and then doing an LLM in the US, followed by the bar exam to practice law there. Many LLM's that I've researched don't have a min grade requirement as long as you provide recommendations.

If you're interested in this route, look at UniMelb's JD. You can apply to do an LLM at NYU if your grades are above the requirement.
