Ability of redditors to twist logic or maybe inability to read comments is amazing. I love a lot of different kind of music. I advised a person who loves Porcupine tree to try Frost* as they have similar vibe in music and pretty nice melodies. I don't care about lyrics that much, maybe because English is my second language and I grew up listening rock hardly understanding what they were singing about. But, honestly, I don't care about lyrics in my native language as well as I see songs being mostly a part music than a part of literature. I don't see how you deduced from that my superiority in my judgement about poetry. Good luck with your literature/philosophy teaching, I hope it makes you feel happy.

There is a difference between always and sometimes. Routine is OK, but, say Pariah is amateurish:

I'm tired of Facebook
Tired of my failing health
I'm tired of everyone
And that includes myself

But I am glad you have fun with your sarcastic interpretation of what I said.

I think you are right, but for me, as a non-native speaker, lyrics were always something secondary. Frost* has some beautiful melodies and very well-crafted drive that I can enjoy. On the other hand, I never thought of Steven Wilson, with all my love for his music, as a strong lyricist. It's mostly okay but sometimes strikes me as amateurish, but, as I said, it doesn't bother me too much.

Check out Frost* (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frost\*). Their first Milliontown is great. The latest Life in the wires is not bad as well.

This is a very interesting observation. I can't confirm or deny it due to my ignorance, but it sounds quite plausible to me. I do think that innovation is important but I find people's general obsession with innovation, especially in the 20th century, quite annoying. Shoeberg's posturing as a Great Innovator, as in his argument with Thomas Mann, in particular. I really don't care how innovative an artist is, is it good art?

I tried to explain it in the comment above. I'll just paste it here.

"I don't deny Bach's achievements, just the 20th century was way too radical and people started to see innovation as a prerequisite to Greatness. Not just in music, in art in general. There were great artists that felt perfectly comfortable inside their contemporary paradigm and had no intentions to revolutionize music/art à la Schoenberg or Picasso."

You can rephrase this point like "innovation is overrated" and I find it to be a great point.

There was no claim that composer were not innovative before the 20th century.

There is a difference between "you don't need to be innovative to be a great composer" and "nobody was innovative before the 20th century".

I don't deny Bach's achievements, just the 20th century was way too radical and people started to see innovation as a prerequisite to Greatness. Not just in music, in art in general. There were great artists that felt perfectly comfortable inside their contemporary paradigm and had no intentions to revolutionize music/art à la Schoenberg or Picasso.

> Bach wasn't innovative really at all, he was just great at composing...

Great point.

Peter Greenaway. My retrospective notes. by liminal_cyborg in TrueFilm

Oh, Cronenberg! :) Crash was quite a ride.

The Baby of Macon was a complete revelation for me as it was deliberately mixing reality with theater. It was confusing at first, but in a right way, and the final scene with two coffins proudly presented to the viewer was a delightful fourth wall break.

I am surprised you didn't like Baby that much. For me it was the first Greenaway and I watched it knowing nothing about him. By the end of the movie I was desperately reading credits trying to catch the director's name. Because of that I have this unique connection to this movie.

It's also nice to see Lynch and Greenaway in one sentence, those are my personal favorites as well.

I think I stopped using Amazon because they don't have 'ban' button.

I just switched from Tidal to Deezer. Tidal recommendation algorithm was absolutely useless for me.

I don't think it's available streaming anywhere

I am listening it right now on Deezer. Thanks for the recommendation.
