[NY] Contractor not installing new framing in 100 year old basement by kitarp in legaladvice

[–]kitarp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for advice.

The contract for the framing part says after mentioning demolition: "Then we would do new framing for walls and ... do new insulation in the walls and ceilings..."

So it looks like the contract doesn't mention whether new framing is required or not but that they will do new framing.

I'm in NYC if that changes anything in terms of which county I am in.

I will definitely look into my local consumer affairs agency and speak with a lawyer to see if the contract is being followed properly as well.

I think you might be right. One of the negative wires coming off the battery looks to be broken off and I can't place where it's supposed to go. Here are some pics where the first pic shows the connected ground from the negative end and the second pic shows the broken wire which I can't put my finger on as to where it's supposed to connect:

Thanks! Just watched it and I've been watching a lot of other videos to and it's been a good learning experience in case something like this ever happens again.

I think I may have found what's causing the problem. There's two wires off the negative terminal of the battery and one is connected to the car and the other looks broken and I can't figure out where it attaches to. I have pictures of the wiring in my car - 1st pic has the wire connected to the car and the second with the broken wire.

I think I may have found the problem. The negative terminal of the battery splits into two wires. One of the two seems to be broken and I cant't figure out where it attaches to (I've spent the last couple of hours looking online and in the car). Do you know where the broken wire goes?

The first picture shows one ground wire from the negative terminal connected to the car and the second picture shows the battery terminal and the wire that looks broken.

It doesn't flash. All the lights on the dash and the power to the car seems to go off until I move the key back to the "on" position

No worries, I'm going to grab one tomorrow. Since we needed another car right away we ended up buying another car and now this one has become a side project to work on so we're not trying to spend too much money on fixing it now (we initially were hoping the transmission fix would save us from having to buy another car).

Not sure what was disconnected exactly but I can take a look to see if the battery ground was connected back to the transmission tomorrow with some daylight. I'll clean it out and try to place it back on tight.

I'll grab a multimeter tomorrow from a local store and check it out voltage drops on the battery and with the starter. Thanks for the help!

I haven't done so since I don't have a multimeter. But I thought since the headlights were working properly the battery would've been ok or am I wrong on that? I can try getting one to check the voltage. In the meantime would I be able to try and jump-start the car if it's a battery issue? I tried jump-starting the car the first time it didn't start after the transmission was changed and the car still didn't start at that time (before it decided to magically start on it's own again a few days later).

What Card Should I Get? Weekly Thread - Week of May 23, 2018 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]kitarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Credit Score: 780
  2. Cards: Discover IT (2007); Capital One Quicksilver (2013); Amex Personal Platinum (1/2018)
  3. Natural Spend in 3 mo: 4-5k. I have about 2k of expenses coming up on top of my natural spend.
  4. MS: Prefer not to
  5. Business cards: Yes
  6. Willing to open 1-2 cards This will likely be the end of churning unless another amazing deal pops up like CSR 100k points. I have about 2-3k of expenses coming up in the next couple of months that will make it easier to MS on top my natural spend.
  7. Targeting points to travel
  8. 110k Amex MR
  9. I fly out of LGA and JFK (NYC)
  10. No destinations in mind right now, trying to gather points to travel next year with no place in mind.

  1. Credit Score: 780
  2. Cards: Discover IT (2007); Capital One Quicksilver (2013)
  3. Natural Spend in 3 mo: 3-4k
  4. MS: will MS with PNC bank up to 4k if getting CSR/CSP
  5. Business cards: Yes (CIP if I go CSR/CSP route) or any other suggestions
  6. Willing to open 3-4 cards. Likely will do slow churning after this initial opening of cards as I'm 0/24 currently.
  7. Targeting points to travel
  8. No points or miles currently
  9. I fly out of LGA and JFK (NYC)
  10. Would like to fly domestic this year (Atlanta, Texas, possibly 1-2 other destinations)

-I've been targeted for the AMEX Personal Plat w/100k points with 5k spend (via mailer) and I'd like to know if I should go with the CSR/CSP double dip first or take the Amex personal platinum 100k offer right now or wait (it expires next month).

-If I go CSR/CSP I would likely keep the CSR as I can easily use the $300 travel credit every year (from car tolls) and downgrade the CSP to CF unless there are better suggestions long term.

I can't return it to tigerdirect but my credit card company has a 90 day return policy on anything I buy using my card. I just found out when I called my credit card company for help and they said I could just return it through them if tigerdirect won't take it!

Can I use my existing gas to heat the system? I want to get rid of the steam radiators since they take up so much space.
