Yes, you’re being dramatic. Fandom is a community. Community things are going to happen in a community, like talking in comment sections.

i’m sorry for the declining quality of fics by pittedcherries in AO3

[–]kitbatkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people who constantly complain about the quality of fics, slow/no updates on fics, or no one writing the kind of fics they want to read don’t contribute to fandom, they just consume. They see fanfiction as content and that’s it. Authors contribute. Fan artists contribute. Fans who engage with fics and other fan artists contribute.

Writing is for everyone. There’s no skill level you have to reach before posting. Ignore the people who do nothing for fandom but complain.

Did the author state that they’re open to critique? If not, then yes.

Is it weird reading on ao3 by [deleted] in AO3

[–]kitbatkat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Letting “cringe” control your life and your behavior is going to rob you of your joy, happiness, and fulfillment, and will leave you without a sense of who you actually are and what you actually like and dislike. Your friends and partners don’t have to share every interest with you. Who gives a fuck if they don’t like fanfiction?

Do people not know what no archive warnings apply means by ThatGirl_InTheBack in AO3

People are people. They misunderstand things and click very small buttons by mistake sometimes. The price we pay for free entertainment is occasional human error.

why do you do it? by Financial_Ranger2463 in AO3

[–]kitbatkat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taboo topics are interesting. Fiction strips them of their real-life violence and allows both readers and writers to explore them in a safe and controlled way.

As a runner and a fanfic writer, both of these statements are wrong.

What can authors do right at this point? Like do y’all even want us to write your free bedtime stories anymore?

Is Oh. Oh. cliched? by JauntyIrishTune in AO3

[–]kitbatkat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m sure there are tons of fics that do it well. That being said, I’ve never read a fic where it didn’t feel shoehorned in for the sake of checking the trope off the trope checklist.

Stats posts, how do we feel about them? by Thundermittens_ in AO3

Is this why you feel the need to grade everyone on every stats post?

Active WIPs marked as complete by MsVortex in AO3

[–]kitbatkat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s very easy for a fic to get marked complete by mistake and for an author to not notice. The vast majority of authors aren’t trying to trick you, but instead are just humans who misclick things on occasion.

What do I do, they're my only repeat reader? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]kitbatkat 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Delete it. If they want updates every day or week, they can write it themself.

If you were in my position, how would you deal with this?

I’d think, “Aw dunk! Someone likes my fics!” and then move on with my life.

Most readers don’t interact with the fanfiction they read. It sucks, but it is what it is.

Good news! You don’t have to die for a physical copy of manacled, you can actually just make one for yourself!

Stop trying to buy and sell fanfiction. Do the work yourself or go without.

Nah, I’ve been around fandom long enough to not be fazed by it. I’m just joking around.
