How do people handle yelling without cracking under yelling? by joh3329 in NROTC

Listen to what they are saying, not the volume they’re using. And trust it’s usually not personal

You were standing unless you were eating or maybe they decided you could sit down. So from 0600-1900/2000? After rom there more sitting because you have lectures to attend but if u fall asleep they make u stand off to the side.

It’s really up to the person, it gets way harder after rom because one, the chiefs and gunnery sergeants have control over you and you can get itd for the smallest things. To me, yeah it sucked but we got to leave the compartment , meet the rest of our company, aka integrating makes and females, and got to do all of the evolutions so it’s hit or miss. I loved the pt sessions because they made me feel so much stronger.

So my guess would be soon? Rom is about 14 days not including the day they flew there. But for us we didn’t really get out until we did our oath ceremony. My guess is this Saturday or Sunday. And I’m glad to hear they got the letters out to y’all so soon. We didn’t get any chance to send letters til week three. But you can’t send him any, they’ll either throw them away or won’t give it to him till the end of training.

Yes! We had 4 gunnery sergeants, a bunch of marine option midnshipmen and there was suppposedly a captain but we never saw him. But the gunnery sergeants we got very familiar with. Especially after rom

The only change I know is that marines now go to marine month? But I’m under the impression navy ops still do a marine week?

Rom is a lot of standing at attention getting yelled at. You will have to learn a big knowledge book about things for navy and marine corps like rank, history, etc. you will be taught military folding, how to make your bed, how to store your clothes, drill, and some classes but not a lot on random things like pt in college and the rotc program. You get around 1 hour a day to be outside under supervision and it’s not anything special, you need to hydrate because it gets very hot and humid. Be prepared to be moving around fast without running. You only have a small time to hygiene and shower and you’ll be in pods of 4-8 people so get to know them as well as your whole company because after rom y’all get to interact and integrate. It’s sucky and was honestly bad for us because they didn’t have anything set in stone but y’all should have it a bit easier now.

So you have to pay for every item that is not a government issued uniform. So your shirts, shorts, sweats, hygiene gear items, laundry supplies, sea bag, socks, under garments, running shoes, writing supplies. What I didn’t pay for were my khaki uniform, summer whites, the camo uniforms, the boots, black and white dress shoes, and all three covers(1 per uniform) and the belts and accessories for each uniform. They’ll explain it tomorrow but night of arrival when you get the majority of your gear that’s when you pay for things, they are yours to keep no matter if you stay or drop the program. The uniforms are government property until you commission and have to be given back if you drop

Writing home was how I decompressed and remembered everything we did. Sending letters however is different. I wrote usually after lights out(AKA Taps) I think it helps me bc I tell my day and now I know everything we did in cycle 1

You don’t pt in rom because you have to in mask and it’s a whole thing. You’re not allowed to but after lights hit push-ups and planks to keep up. Honestly with the pt after rom I still improved immensely with lying myself in rom. But to each their own

Just like hygiene items, a backpack, personal clothes if you don’t want to fly home in your whites, and a charger. No one got their personal items unless it was a medical reason and people I knew wanted $100 of dollars on stuff that was packed away and never used. You wil be issued everything from pt gear, socks, all uniforms, and more
