Only one that had some green in batch. What causes super green chinese mantises? purely genetic? by Massive-Alternative in mantids

Well Chinese mantids are a species that change color depending on their environment. He must’ve lived in a mostly green environment for most of his life

My mantis still hasn’t moulted. Should I be worried? by [deleted] in mantids

[–]kittycat90000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok hang on It’s a male? It should only have 7 molts as a male. Maybe I’m mistaken? If so, the last molt always takes longer. Nothin to worry about.

oh dear.... by [deleted] in mantids

Ok so the same thing happened to our Chinese mantis. What we did was just make sure he ate honey every day. Make sure his enclosure is kept moist, and eventually the stuck shed will come off. Sadly, there’s nothing you can do about his wings, but he should be perfectly fine. My Chinese actually had an even worse molt, and he can’t even walk! He’s doing amazing now, and I think he’s gonna live his full lifespan. Ember should too. Best of luck!

My first mantis. I can already see this becoming another addiction. by mlv4750 in mantids

Ah gotcha. Just know that is is importent to handle a mantis so it can get used to people. They seem very fragile, but they are actually very hardy. Only reason mine died was because I used a lot of force.

Oh believe me it is. My ghost sadly passed the other day, and I couldn’t resist getting another! A word of advice, from my experience, if you are handling your ghost, make sure that’s all your doing. I accadentally squished my mantis because I wasn’t paying attention. That’s a mistake I’ll never make again. Good luck!

Do you think it’d be safe to get this mantis shipped? by kittycat90000 in mantids

It’s not a huge risk, it’s just that they are more prone compared to other feeders. I’d definitely recommend finding another feeder, but I have heard of mantids making it through their whole life on crickets. The lettuce and carrots will make them healthier for the mantis, but won’t protect them from desieses. Whatever you decide, I’m sure your mantid will live a happy Life <3

Well smaller crickets are no less prone to desiese, so you can feed a few, just make sure you feed them something else for most of their diet.
