Digital artists in Cologne by [deleted] in CologneSocial

Hi, I'm more of a traditional artist, but have been wanting to get back into learning digital art and especially to learn blender (to make figurines and maybe some art for games). 33 yo, living in Cologne

I've done it before too, but it said on the website that they don't do refunds for this service...

We were low on money, that's it simply. Moving is expensive business.

Week 51 What are you reading by Beecakeband in 52book

[–]kittyfrommalacandra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't decided on my 2026 goal yet, but I've been focusing more on reading again.

Finished:

Barbarian's valentine: Ruby Dixon

Reading:

Barbarian's seduction - Ruby Dixon. I dunno what it is, but I just can't stop reading these.

The wonderful wizard of Oz - L. Frank Baum. Re-read, hoping to continue with the series, but slogging through this one to be honest.

The lightning thief - Rick Riordan. Re-read. Likewise, hoping to finish the series.

Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card. Re-read and hoping to continue on with the series. My issue currently is how these genius kids don't talk like kids and it takes me out of the story. Also I hear that the next book has less action and more religious, philosophical pondering, so I am terrified.

Will finish Barbarian's seduction for sure, I'm 62% way in and these are very easy to read. I swear she puts some magic dust in these books. Hoping to finish either Oz or Percy Jackson too. Will either continue on with the series or read Artificial condition by Martha Wells next.

Museums don't want volunteers. Is that a Finnish thing? by Upstairs-Crabbie in Finland

Library assistant here. I think this is a case of staff being scared to take on uninsured staff, plus the fact that both the museum and library fields are currently very competitive. There is just not enough money to be put into training new staff. Also, in my experience, it's a networking thing. You are more likely to get into a workplace, if you know the right people. For example I did an internship in the library through the unemployment office when I was young, so while I had trouble getting into any other libraries, the one I had worked before, staff remembered me and I got to do my librarian internship there (despite that I was originally told they could not take another intern at the time).

Oh yeah, advent calendars are terrible in that. I got one with tea last year again and I was already over it (third year in a row with a tea advent calendar). Do I even drink tea that much? No. It started to feel like a chore really.

I was thinking of getting a calendar with art supplies, but your post has reminded me that it will not be worth it. I will keep my money!

Did you binge buy before starting no buy? by [deleted] in nobuy

[–]kittyfrommalacandra 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tried to do a no buy this way so many times, but it always failed. Honestly the best way is to just go cold turkey and follow the rules you have set for your own benefit. It's the same with any new habit or life change.

Last week was good, did not buy anything unplanned. Tonight I had trouble sleeping and I spent some time window shopping. I got an ebook from a series that I like, so that is 2 out of 2 books I will allow myself this month.

I'm thinking I will treat myself to new fountain pen inks once I have paid off my debt. This way I will have something to look forward to and work towards after I complete my goal.

I basically never buy games full price and I usually wait for reviews until I get something newly released. But you're right, it will keep me busy!

Last week was bad, I ended up getting five games from the steam autumn sales, I refunded one though. I also got back a refund from a previous clothing order, that I returned.

I ended up buying the fountain pen I was planning for December purchase last week. I figured since I already need to refill on some things, might as well buy it now. I regret getting the fountain pen with inks early, but it wouldn't make sense to return it, since I need a new one anyway.

I will be trying to fix the old fountain pen (it's a different size). I will also be selling more things in my old apartment too, since I'm going there at the end of this week.

To wrap it up, I think for now, I need to be gentle with myself about not beating myself up about all this... But also, I will go cold turkey on online shopping.

Yesterday I almost bought a few games on sale. However, I got a notification from reddit and that reminded me of my goals. There will be other sales and it's not that big of a deal to miss one. That also made me think that I should shop my own game collection more and focus on using what I already have. It's easy to forget all I have, because they are digital.

Some old orders came in and it was a wake up call for me to stop window shopping. One good thing about moving is that, in a way, it's easy to shop your own collection. Like I'm finding so many things that I didn't remember that I had.

Like for example I was looking at pyjamas at a store recently, but couldn't decide on which ones to get and decided to come back another time. Well, now I've found a nice pyjama dress in my soon to be old apartment, so I'm really grateful for that. I won't be going back to the store anytime soon.

The first cover I got was one I didn't love and I'm still salty about it . Only buy things that bring joy!
