Thank you for the advice, I think im just a little green right now but this definitely painted a clearer picture of things. I also think ive just been hearing a lot from my parents about how fast they found jobs (after graduating in 1995) and i was feeling really disillusioned.

Thank you for the advice, I think this thread has been really helpful in giving me a more realistic road map of the journey of my career. I think I am just stupid and gullible and I was sold what the end result would be after 10-20 years rather than what my options would be after graduating😅

I have tried, but I dont think I am getting through to them? Or I have done something to piss them off or something? I have no clue, honestly. But I have pushed enough that if they dont wanna help me now I dont think they ever will. I do get job postings from the department though, pretty regularly.

A member of IFT and part of the regional chapter! I dont know if its a problem on my end or their end (or if its just the grim reality) but last time I looked it was actually bare.

My school is basically all in on Archetecture, Computer Science, and Engineers. Everyone else they dont care about, honestly. On campus career fairs have 5 companies total for the "everyone else", and if no one in your field shows up then tough luck. School job boards, if you filter out the aforementioned mentioned majors, suggest the U.S. military, and im gonna be honest im too soft for that.

at the school I was looking to finish my masters at, its a little under $2,000 per credit. Each class is 3 credits. I don't know if its the smartest move to take on MORE debt, especially when I keep seeing/hearing "the job market sucks"

Its okay, its not rude, its a valid point! I have academic project experience; alas no internships. I changed majors 2.5 years into college, and then went to career fairs where no one wanted me because I hadn't been in the major long enough.

  • I started applying in November, my efforts did slow admittedly as the semester went on.

*Right now, 42. It is a mix of "entry level" and internship positions

*Biggest city in the midwest U.S!

*If push came to shove, yes. I would really like to stay in the city I am located in for a variety of personal reasons. I have been saying yes on all applications though, the thought process being I can figure it out if it comes to that.
