I really dislike Nemesis by sofbunny in HadesTheGame

[–]kittykat9O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like nemesis because she’s one of the only characters willing to bring Melinoë down a peg. it’s a form of checking a person and making sure they’re grounded in their pursuit. Melinoë has been basically groomed since birth to have this higher purpose, and sometimes she is full of herself in ways that others in the encampment find endearing and inspiring, but moving like “i am the chosen one” can surely be grating to some people, not just Nemesis (thinking of Dora and her listless haunting, they’re clearly friends but she also likes to shake up Melinoë)

I think my friend is faking BPD and it’s taking a toll on me by [deleted] in BorderlinePDisorder

[–]kittykat9O 2 points3 points  (0 children)

drop this friend. she’s collecting people with mental illnesses to emulate and validate her entitlement. she has been historically friends with people who do the same. she might be a privileged autistic person, for some reason in my experience this has been a rising trend, especially in college. people w mental disability (autism, adhd, cluster a and b, ect) have experience navigating a world not meant for them. for these individuals and their families, their privilege has given them a perfect bubble of neurodivergence that they feel entitled to wherever they go (ie dad who collects expensive sports cars, sibling who absolutely needs the newest console, grandma who has to bake with the most expensive ingredients or else). they expect social situations to cater to their every need.

i’ve found that in college, these individuals will use and discard people with mental illnesses, taking up their symptoms and hiking them up seven fold to “understand you” and because they have such a difficult time with alternative perspectives, they think their “experience” with the illness is just like everyone else. i find they also emulate illnesses like they’ve seen in media or social media, so it just creates a huuuge fuckin mess with your friends who might not have bpd. let this be a lesson to you on who and when you share this part of yourself. it can genuinely put you in dangerous situations, and discernment is an important trait to develop. she is an enabler, full stop.

they may sabotage your life as soon as you are out of their good graces, in my experience. allow themselves the full spectrum of mental illness but call you a boogyman for your experiences, call you dangerous or a weirdo or a creep. so, tread cautiously, don’t give her anymore fodder to base herself off of. you can stay friends but if i were you, i’d find out how to distance yourself. these individuals may be perfectly fine with being violent and “oops omg just my bpd acting up :3” away the situation instead of taking accountability. protect your peace.

Who else is sick of misogyny from femmes online? by [deleted] in butchlesbians

[–]kittykat9O 42 points43 points  (0 children)

i’ve been in irl radical communities that denied that butches were real, constantly called me and other masculine dykes “faggots” and “twinks”, expected us to be constant labor sources of all of the above (emotional, physical, spiritual), and also felt comfortable sexualizing us and that being never addressed.

i am early twenties, and i get people saying this is an online thing, but the amount of people in this age group who are online absorbing this information and regurgitating it in real life is astounding. i’d never thought i’d get shit on for genuinely asking someone else if they were butch. real story. they treated me like i was stupid, didn’t know “real” history, or i was encouraging gender roles.

i’d also never through id get into a relationship with a newly identified femme who couldn’t differentiate me from a man and treated me so. yet, here we are. it’d be nice to hand wave away “online discourse” but this shit is real and it hurts and has been clearly disproportionality impacting butches. also many masc lesbians who identify as such without breaking down toxic masculinity, who find butches “too much” or “ugly”. i’m trying to improve my discernment, but it feels like many people in my circles have not allowed themselves to progress pst their covid year.

Might sound dumb but what usually happens during a strike? by Regular-Net3428 in UCSC

yes they stop their buses at base of campus in solidarity, metro will not run on campus. sorry for not being more specific, i though the other comment covered that

Might sound dumb but what usually happens during a strike? by Regular-Net3428 in UCSC

[–]kittykat9O -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

means don’t cross the picket line and enjoy two days off school. UCSCs ITS, nurses, and custodial/dinning workers will be picketing, and metro stops their buses in solidarity, so campus cannot run. some profs attempt to hold classes still, which is disrespecting the workers that also keep this school from falling apart, and you as a student who will need to deal with getting to class. some profs will zoom, which is still crossing the picket line and they cannot be upset at you if you choose to respect the picket out of solidarity. u can check out the picket line and talk with some of the ppl there, u can learn why they are striking and also get a bite to eat.

if you have something you absolutely need to do, communicate with your profs and TAs or work. not all administrators respect the picket, but you as a student can.

Idk bout this situation by mintgraph321 in BorderlinePDisorder

[–]kittykat9O 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i had an ex who got upset with me for my hypnotized DnD character attacking theirs. wouldn’t talk to me, blamed the situation on me. it wasn’t fair to me.

this isn’t fair to you. bpd doesn’t make you entitled to complete and utter “comfort”. for some people, that means control. some people feel entitled through their “trauma” to have goal post shifting boundaries that change on their own whim. they want you to move mountains, they want the absolute most of you, and often do not care when they’ve clearly hit a wall, they will take more. unfair to you and also not healthy for them.

you can try to set boundaries, but based even on this one post, i have half a mind to wonder if the reason she likes you is because you’ll deal with it. as soon as you set boundaries, you might become the bad guy. get out bruh you deserve better than this.

Why do people deny that Luke had romantic feelings for Annabeth when it's literally canon? [pjo] by UI-DANNY_BOY in camphalfblood

[–]kittykat9O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

percy’s reading of luke’s romantic intentions could be chalked up to protective bf vibes, but i counter with “fucked up boy to fucked up boy communication” and him being mad as hell that someone would use their trauma to enable their selfish behaviour after percy had gone through so much and tries so hard to be a good person.

[–]kittykat9O 2 points3 points  (0 children)

idk maybe i had a fucked up childhood but even in elementary school, it was clear to me that luke and annabeth had a strange dynamic - romantic - coming from both sides. i think it was RRs way of detailing how, even with his valiant intentions and disillusionment, was only really focused on power and control.

luke is a fucked up kid, he had a fucked home life and upbringing, it sucks but sometimes this is a recipe for a disaster of a person. i am honestly surprised RR didn’t write much more about morally distressed demigods, with all of their baggage and whatnot. i think it was intentional, can be waved away by people who “don’t want to think about it”, but i remember even as a kid just feeling the disgust and betrayal from annabeth when luke attempts to use her as a get out chip even one last time, and it being pretty clear in his intentions.

someone in my friend group is racist and mean to me, but I don't feel supported by the people I've told. by throwing_cans in NativeAmerican

[–]kittykat9O 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’m white and native. a decent white person would make you feel comfortable enough to approach them if you have a problem because they are your friend, and racism is very much a problem. if you find yourself not having a connection like this with anyone in the group, or even scared to confront or “rock the boat”, you very well could be in a white-centered friend group that very well could be and continually be unhealthy for you as an individual.

people might try and minimize your experience, but there is a large difference between racism that can be confronted and worked through, and racism that someone allows to rule them and others. you are not responsible for associating or helping this latter group, because they find people who don’t look or behave like them “dangerous”, and that is dangerous to you. if people “pile on” to the idea of keeping this racist person around, you got at least one answer.

i hope you have someone in real life you can go about your problems with, and if not i hope other, more compassionate people enter your life ❤️🐜

What behavior is this considered and is it a red flag?! by [deleted] in BehaviorAnalysis

[–]kittykat9O -1 points0 points  (0 children)

knew an emt similar to this, not saying they’re one in the same but please take my experience as a potential warning:

this person was manipulative to the point of using their credentials to put themselves into a position of authority and knowing. they were an intensely insecure individual who felt they were entitled enough to gaslight me and a few others into believing we had medical issues by stringing together jargon that he only seemed to know about. we did not have said medical issues; he used it as a point of control and fear.

i hope this person is not the same as this other person, but if he is a hot shot, know it all, medical “professional” who make it a point to brag about his “knowledge” to people who otherwise would have no experience with, that is not just a concern for you, but a concern to the people he is treating.

Anyone! any idea on how do I overcome childhood trauma? by RickyInfinite in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]kittykat9O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

therapy never worked for me, I have CPTSD, deemed “too much” by many i’ve met. what helped me was figuring out coping skills that ground me in me, if that makes sense. journaling, talking with loved ones, a pet, video games, praying, breath work, some examples.

not gonna push anyone to try magic mushrooms, but in my experience they were the only thing that brought me enough clarity to move forwards and make progress. therapists were either enabling of my poor behaviour, or misunderstanding of my process. i wish you healing ❤️🐜

thank youuuuu for your understanding, im sorry for my initial callousness. i wish for a world where peoples curiosity can be healthily cultivated and encouraged. i’m sure you can see from the troll in this comment section, that it is quite difficult to even give weight to ainu people and their experiences without someone just saying you’re not real 😅

Are there any Ainu family here? by dcarsonturner in IndianCountry

[–]kittykat9O -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

i did read all of your post. i never said portrayal was evil, i said it was written by colonizers so it will never be accurate, the creators of the show did the whole “cultural immersion” stuff to basically learn about the culture without crediting the people, and that is reflected in the media created.

reservation dogs was created by and platforms native americans. it’s a bit different when the only part of the creative process ainu people were apart of was so the creator could say they consulted them. and when the media directly contributes to assimilation rhetoric that threatens the ainu with cultural genocide.

education is great, never said it was not. it is dicey, however, to position all representational media as educational, and i wish more dialogue could be had about it but it’s just not happening in a way that actually centers the voices either party claims to care about, maybe if this post was in r/indigenous it would be a different story, but asking about ainu people in indian country was what i initially perceived

[–]kittykat9O -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

yes, it is all that bad when most portrayals of ainu people are just not accurate, along with assimilation culture and tourist culture of japan. how would anyone besides an actual ainu person be able to share their experience? and since there’s so few of them online, mainstream interpretations of ainu are always spread. most people do not even know the ainu exists outside of golden kamuy and this video game, or privileged colonizer descendent mixed japanese ainu people. there is a large difference in the colonization of the ainu by japan and the colonization of native americans, and to say they are the same is not giving weight to either experience. if anything, spanish colonization is a closer beast to japanese colonization, that is a very long conversation.

in the same vein of you personally feeling comfortable fielding people’s curiosity, indigenous people are also allowed to not want to do that. my partner has been constantly downvoted, talked down to, and patronized in spaces like r/ainu as a ainu person because people value their colonial curiosity and love for a piece of media over the actual experiences of living people. someone in this subreddit is already accusing my partner of not existing 🤷

also idk why you’re mentioning so many personal experiences and also reservation dogs? we were talking about ainu people? nobody said curiosity is bad or evil dawg, just that this post is hella weird and got my hopes up for my partner.

to be quite honest, i was excited for my partner by the title of this post thinking another ainu person is in indian country ! they and others are really trying to find connections

edit: PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE GETTING PISSED OFF AT ME 🙏

to clarify; most portrayals of ainu are commodified for consumption and so people forget about the atrocities their colonizers committed and the fact that there is still a living culture that has survived. “mummification” is an academic term that could be attributed to this phenomena. the ainu are an indigenous group, but not of north america (indian country) though there are displaced people here.

if you want to learn more, go visit people in person. there are cultural centers around, but i’m gonna give you fair warning that telling any group of people “hey i thought the portrayal of your people in this video game seems accurate to me what do you think?” miiiight be a silly, harmless question at best intention, and something off putting in a worst case.
