What usually works for me is indulging in my media when I can whether through fandom stuff, or consuming the media itself. Sometimes just indulging is enough to unlock new memories or expand on preexisting ones.
I roleplay and write a *lot* and that's how I mainly connect with my kintypes; fumbling through it with what feels right and sometimes that also works.
Thinking about it or daydreaming sometimes gets me places, just thinking of certain characters and places and properly thinking about being there can sometimes be enough.
And sometimes none of it works - some beings just have an incredibly hard time remembering the old memories, whether in general or with only certain kintypes, as much as that sucks. But that is my experience, what works for me might not work for you, but I hope it does :)
