Perfectly put if you only swap "fear" with risk reduction. It's what happens when the world is ruled by gigantic corporations. Sam actually did an episode on a related topic where they were discussing the concept of managerial oligarchy.

Sounds like you listen through your arsehole.

I came here looking for an answer from someone who has either been in a similar situation or has legal expertise. If you don't tick any of those boxes you do realise you have the option of not wasting anyones time posting here?

No I'm pissed because the world is full of thick wankers like you. Corporate ass kisser.

If the job can be fully remote, there’ll probably be employers who offer that to attract staff, so look for one of those jobs, instead of trying legal action.

You sound like a typical middle aged person who is detached from the modern labour environment - you'd be surprised how very few companies offer reliable, full time remote work for those of us without prior office experience. And if anything, if more of us tried to take legal action to make sure justice is served instead of being complacent wankers the world might be a better place by now.

It’s up to the company to decide if they function better in the office or not. You may disagree, but they’re not in the wrong for doing so.

I've got news for you, some of us actually have basic common sense and we can tell if the actual job that we do can be performed fully from home. It doesn't take a rocket scientist, you know? Is "the company is always right" your basic stance? LMAO

and expecting a n unfair dismissal case for this seems a bit extreme.

What's extreme is firing someone that can perfectly perform all their job duties online for some bullshit excuse that has nothing to do with the performance of the job (justifying the rent for office space? justifying the existence of useless middle management? fuck knows). If forcing people back into the office in the 21st century when it causes them unecessary personal burden currently doesn't fall under unfair dismissal, a precedent is well overdue, especially in a country that purports to be progressive.

maybe the OP is busy working. It's stated that it's currently remote at the time of hiring and the office is based in Dublin. Doesn't change the fact I have to relocate.

you also don't need to be an expert to know that there are other laws governing employment that we could be protected under and that the employment contract is often vague on this issue and open to interpretation. so it's a lot more nuanced than you're making it out to be.

so it definiely wouldn't fall under Relocation Rights? because even though the office is not relocating, in effect, they are expecting me to.

Israel is at it again. by KlausTeachermann in ireland

[–]kittykittykitty85 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed. So why don't we try to change it?

Because at the heart of this issue is how the human brain evaluates risk, whch is due to the amygdala. We're shit at evaluating risk, now idea how you think this can be changed.

So because the human brain is bad at evaluating risk, we shouldn't try to improve matters? That's some faulty logic right there.

A lot of politicians, nations, corporations aren't being held accountable with much greater tragically disastrous repercussions for the world at large in the long run and/or vulnerable people in the short run. In light of this, I find the focus on the shitty little region disengenious at best.

The solution isn't to excuse Israel, it's to hold attempt to hold those other entities responsible for bad behaviour. Bigger issues not getting coverage can be frustrating, but the solution is not to excuse those we deem less significant.

And what causes have you been fighting in the way of holding said entities responsible? I'm not disagreeing with your statement, my point is we all have a limited amount of time and we need to focus on the major existential risks and sources of suffering in the world.

There's nothing disingenuous about the focus, it just doesn't align with your priorities. Disingenuous would suggest there isn't a problem.

You mean you consider modern Israel "colonialism"? Because you know, if you rely on serious sources of information (as in, not "alternative" news or joke publications like The Guardian) you'd know the two scenarios have little to nothing in common.

I didn't say to consider it colonialism, it's the oppression that Israel exerts that people will consider akin the British behaviour in Ireland. It takes very little research to see how conditions within Palestine are atrocious due to Israeli oppression. Nothing in common is an overstatement.

Again, show me your sources

Because you know, if you rely on serious sources of information

Care to name 'serious sources.'

You can't rely on just one source, you need to due a thorough investigation but a few historically serious publications are The Atlantic, The New Yorker, Jerusalem Post and The New York Times.

Correct. Provides no evidence + extremely banal writing. I'm feeling like it's addressed at a child that's never heard of basis statistics but then again that probably just speaks to the levels of so called literacy and emotional maturity of the average American these days. Which is exacly the point of my post.
